USB Flash Drive Shell by EndeavourCollegeSAKeller Jun 18, 2011

Description

I'm a Design & Technology teacher with a new MakerBot and I'm trying to think of projects for my year 10 students. This is an idea that I had, students will carefully pull apart an old (or new) working USB stick and they would design a new shell for it. This project will test their measuring and CAD skills.

Here is my first attempt - not very creative but I just wanted to make sure that it was possible.

Feel free to put forward any other ideas for year 10 projects... they need to be reasonably simple and they need to be smallish prints because at the moment we only have 1 MakerBot and a class of 18 or so. They need to be Things that dont take forever to print.

Awesome, ill take a look. Thanks so much.

A nice project that students really like... well at least my year 9 ones do. As mentioned... quick, simple, demanding students to use a range of skill... AND 3D printing!

Back in March 2011 I published a Teaching and Learning resource about this project on my blog http://rapman-education.poster... and the the Bits from Bytes education wiki http://wiki.bitsfrombytes.com/... for use with their RapMan and BfB3000.... although any 3D printer could be used. ;) By all means use these projects with other machine... but please post comments/ideas/suggestions on my blog or the BfB forum if you do.

Instructions

This is made for an Imation USB stick which I believe are fairly common. You may need a dab of glue to hold the shell on to avoid pulling it off when you remove the USB drive from the computer.
