Set of Dominoes for printing
by MakeALot, published
Description
4 plates of Dominoes making a 6 dot set.
Although I created this yesterday, I didn't publish it until today, I notice in the meantime that Joerg has created another set thingiverse.com/thing:9652. Great minds think alike Joerg!
Now you have a choice...

view allI did try the fill-in, and it was too much of a PITA. So I used http://www.faberdashery.co.uk PLA to make the set pretty.

These are scaled for a 100mm x 100mm print size change SCAD file line to resize them.
setIndex, dotSize, dotSpace, thickness
set(setNumber,2.5,6,4);
If you want to use these for Domino Rally, you should increase the thickness to about 6mm to give yourself a chance to get them standing.
Dominoes is a common Pub game in the UK (although it's dying out) there are several variants of play, my son and I play 5s & 3s. If you'd like to know the rules pagat.com/tile/wdom/fives_and_threes.html is a good introduction.
Update:
I have added a set that go up to 9 dots for those who'd like more than 6.

Is there an easy way to scale the number of dots to something greater than 6?

well, you could use a combination of our both scripts: mine ( thingiverse.com/thing:9652 ) for up to 9 dots and this one here for the design...
:-)
I had the idea of creating my own set while playing this a while ago with my nephew...
nearly gave up due to some inabilities within OpenScad, but sorted those out (code isn't that nice as it could be; for me being a professional software developer, I hate ugly code - no other way within OpenScad --I'm definitely downloading your scad file when back from work to see how you did it).
I also started with a simple hollow sphere for the 'eyes' - didn't print too well for the small pieces (10x20x4)mm I started with, so I changed the design
Hi Joerg, I am also a software developer and I struggle with OpenSCAD's limitations. I often think of something that could be really easy to do, but is not really possible in OpenSCAD. Your design is more flexible than mine, I only wanted a 6 set and I optimised it for the largest cards I could create with as few prints as possible. I think it's good to have a few different styles to choose from, hopefully others will add to the selection. I suppose Drafts/Checkers is next :)

What I love about your set is that it's ready to put drops of liquid ABS into the dots to make them "fancy." I'll try to print white with black dots.
Sounds good, I look forward to seeing the pictures. :)
