BlinkyBelt Buckle

BlinkyBelt Buckle by mkellner Jul 1, 2011

Description

I picked up an adafruit Blinky Belt kit for my daughter. It required very little soldering and is nice and bright. The kit included a battery holder (with integrated switch) but nothing to enclose the circuitry or wiring. I wanted something a little more solid to hold and protect the board and batteries.

There is a follow-on version brewing in my head.

Instructions

There is a writeup here: robotranch.org/blog/archives/160

Assemble the BlinkyBelt as suggested, up to the point of the battery box.

Print the Bottom, End and Buckle. The end cap has some support material built-in which needs to be cut out.

Cut some small holes near the edge and end of the blinky belt. Slide the end cap on and use zip-ties to attach.

Print and assemble the battery pack. (Thing 5079) thingiverse.com/thing:5079 (Parameterized battery pack with contacts by obijuan).

Solder up the switch and power wires to the brain.

Zip tie the wired end of the belt to base and plug the wire into the brain.

Press the switches into place.

Press the battery pack into the belt buckle.

Align the holes of the buckle with the belt and switches. Before completely closing, slide the belt end into the box and close.

Turn on switch and blink-out!
