Pyramid puzzle by nathan7 Jul 10, 2011

Description

A small puzzle I have in real life - I decided to make a SCAD model of it as an exercise and hoping that someone would print it.
It has been printed by ScribbleJ with good results, photos are at flickr.com/photos/13723140@N04/5927996270/in/photostream/.

v2 has evenly spaced spheres, this improves the shape of the solved puzzle.
There are thick cylinders (parametric, default 1.5mm) through the spheres that should be connected.
There is also a set of thinner cylinders (also parametric, default 0.1mm) that keeps the whole thing together so you can keep it as a 4x5 grid of spheres (perhaps for gifts or something)

easy, but a good puzzle to start which

I think I solved it in v2. The spheres are spaced evenly (they're in a grid now, all touching - you might have to break them apart but that's nice when giving it as a gift) but with a cylinder through each set. I'd like to see how it comes out.

I noticed the problem, but I'm unsure how to solve it. Decreasing the overlap would make printing harder and I haven't got any other ideas.

Unfortunately the assembled pyramid looks distorted because the linked spheres are overlapped, which throws off the geometry because the non-linked spheres can't do the same. But that doesn't hurt the puzzle, it just gives it a funky look!
