BetterHalf....where two halves make it right!
Just a couple of nerds enjoying a hobby in 3D printing. He's the mechanical & electrical half, she's the CAD & material properties half. So, who's the "better half" then? Well, that all depends on the situation!
Initial Prusa i3 kit built mid-September, 2014. Continuously modified and upgraded our "stock" Prusa i3 with opensource designs from Thingiverse, and then ventured on to complete our own custom upgrade designs. Biggest success was replacing the classic belt-drive model with a lead-screw driven assembly (both X & Y axis).
In mid-2015, we used our modified Prusa i3 to seed a full new custom build. We rehashed the lead-screw driven bowden model into a polycarbonate-enclosed 15mm t-slot frame (600mm³) and added a second extrusion nozzle. Some other key hardware changes as well, such as upgrading the spiral machined aluminum couplers to LoveJoy couplers, and tossing out the recirculating ball linear bearings for aluminum encased tribopolymer bearings (effectively a low friction, low-wear plastic bushing).
Fall 2018: After over 3 happy years of running out custom-built 3D printer, we've retired this model and have constructed the Hypercube Evolution designed by SCOTT_3D. This design is so elegant and customizable, and we highly recommend this model if you have the cash and are looking for a robust, virtually fool-proof build!
