The LATRA INNOVATION LAB is a design studio situated inside the premises of KARA TEPE Hospitality Camp for Refugees and Migrants in Lesvos-Greece, set up by LATRA, with the purpose of exlporing applications of innovative design technology in the provision of humanitarian aid and relief.
The aim of the LATRA INNOVATION LAB is to place multidiscipline actors directly on the field with access to innovative design technology, where with the help of pioneering humanitarian organisations will create an environment that will allow for opportunities in social innovation, economic empowermnet and direct, all-inclusive learning experiences.
Driven by the premise to Build the World Better, LATRA established the INNOVATION LAB directly at the point of need in Lesvos, to focus on the design of projects, products and services that positevely contribute to the production and distribution of shelter solutions, life-sustaining items and sanitation applications, using open-source product design, 3D printers, UAVs and the latest in innovative design technology.
The LATRA INNOVATION LAB organised and produced the 1st International Humanitarian Design Workshop in Lesvos (10/16) with the participation of more than 40 emerging multidiscipline professionals from 8 different countries representing more than 15 organisations, such as UNRWA, Medicine Du Monde, Better Shelter, Alpinter, Save The Children, Samaritan's Purse, Sympleusi, ERCI, Alpinter, The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and numerous universities across the globe to study applications of additive manufacturing and UAVs in the design, production and distribution of Refugee Housing Units & Core Relief Items (www.corerelief.org).
