I bought and assembled an flsun cube and I have a few problems with it the major one being that over time the printer has degraded in usefulness, initially I was able to control the printer and adjust it with the program provided in the kit (repetier), however it can no longer control the printer and has an issue of not sending commands to the printer. Does anyone have any advice on what to do?

Does the printer print when printing of a SD card ?
Have you checked the connection settings in repetier (especialy the baud rate) ?
Have you tried another USB cable ?
Have you tried reflashing the firmware ?

I use Octoprint and Marlin to control mine. I'm in the process of switching firmware to Klipper, as soon as I can find a config file, I can report on that.

Did you ever manage to use klipper? I use klipper on my FLSUN. I started out with the default RAMPS config and got the rest from the supplied ino. These are my settings, but i did some modifications on the printer, it now has a chimera dual hotend and some switches are inverted on my setup. What are your settings for pressure advance
