Copying this over from the X-Max group. I designed and published a fan duct for upgrading the small 30 mm extruder fan to a larger and much more quiet Noctua 40 mm fan. This mod will work for the Qidi X-Plus and X-Max.
Looks interesting. So what are the gains? How much decibel does it change and does it also cool more effectively?
I swapped my factory 30mm fan out to a 40mm Noctua and it was noticeably quieter but not silent by any means. Driving a 12V fan at 24V spins it up faster so that eats some of the noise savings there. As far as better cooling it's not really apples to apples in my case since it's a larger fan and being overdriven. I can't see how it would not be better at cooling though.
Use the supplied Low Noise adapter and it will effectively drop the voltage from the printer to the fan to around 12V. It will be very quiet.
Cool. And what about opening it up to replace the nozzle or get rid of some filament. Is that still easy to do (or easier even)?
Just installed this mod with the GDS Time 40x20 24v fan. yes definitely quieter. Mod doesn't make working the printer head any more complicated (than it already WAS LMAO).
I imagine that having that running without the cover probably facilitates heat dissipation a bit more as well.
Hi, the link to the fan duct seems to be disappeared.
Would you please repost the model or send it directly to me? Or were there any problems with the upgrade that caused you to withdrawn the release?
No unfortunately all my designs were lost so that is why it is missing. There was no issue with it but has since been replaced with similar but improved versions.

The advanced cover will get an update the next few days.
If you want to I can upload the original design, I should have it somewhere.
This looks like a good idea. Has anyone tried it on the X-Plus? If so, do you have any advice or feedback? Thank you!
Sorry for the late reply. I've only tested this on my X-Max but X-Plus looks identical so should work fine. :)
