Dual Z axis on SKR 1.3

by Gnattycole

Not sure if anyone has successfully cracked this but I'm trying to set up a dual Z drive using the E1 port as a Z2 stepper driver. It seems to be driving ok apart from the steps per unit seem to be out. i.e. one of the motors is turning further than the other per demanded distance and the bed goes out of true.
I think it's because it is picking up the steps per unit from the E0 which on my config is 500 as opposed to 400 for the Z (X,Y,Z, E0 {80,80,400,500} I tried adding the E1 value of 400 but got a compile error stating Too many values for default axis steps, had I enabled DISTINCT_E_FACTORS. I did enable it but the error message persisted each time I attempted to compile. Also, when I run a M122 command in Pronerface, it doesn't report the 5th stepper driver which is a TMC2208 V3.0 un UART mode. (They all are). Not sure if it's supposed to when dual z axis is enabled in config_adv.h but I don't think I've missed any other settings.
This is frustrating as it's so close to working now. I wanted to enable the dual axis so the bed would home flat using the ABL probe. I've got an 8mm aluminium plate fitted for a heat bed so it tends to drop unevenly once the steppers are disabled.
Any info appreciated folks.

My Tronxy X5S has lot of problems.

by Ege_Irmak

My layers does not stick together.
My printer grinds my filament.
Extruder clogged everytime I tried to print something.
There is a problem with my Z-Axis and everytime at the same height layers stop sticking. ( Worse than normal)

HI all

Got a new X5SA coming (the newer 2019 version) , I was going to custom build one, but for sale price of $220 bucks you just cant beat it. Plan to get the SKR1.3 for it and few other things planned.

Has anyone had any luck with direct extrusion?

Thanks in advance =).

Just picked up a x5sa-500 from ebay

by jerm240

what upgrades can anyone recommend for this printer? I still have to wire in the heated bed and make sure it works but for 220.00 and having to drive 4 hours to pick it up it was worth the risk on such a huge printer now im looking to get it running?

Printer hangs at "E1 heating..."

by NickDirty

Hi all. I bought a used Tronxy X5S and I am having some issues getting it to print.

The previous owner has upgraded the hotbed with a MOSFET and a 24v power supply and removed the second cooling fan on the print head. Other than that, everything appears stock.

The printer will hang at "E1 heating..."

As far as I can tell, this will go on indefinitely. I let it go for 50 minutes. The LCD readout shows the bed heating, then the hotend going to target temp, but then nothing happens. The bed and hotend just stay at the target temp. I can move the axis manually via the board.

I'm slicing with Cura 4.4, and I've tried my own gcode, as well as what I assume were previous successful prints that were existing on the SD card with the same issue.

I upgraded the Firmware to 1.1.8 hoping that would fix the issue but it does not seem to have any effect.

The only thing I can think of is that the side fan has been removed and the circuit is open, but unplugging or jumping the wires together doesn't seem to have any effect.

Has anyone had this issue before? I am at a loss for how to even diagnose this issue, let alone fix it.

Thanks for reading!

Tronxy X5S Problems after different layers

by Bluppi

Hay Guys,
I got a Problem with my Printer. I hope someone of you can help me...
The warpage you can see is a problem with my bed, because it is to high in the middle (See Picture), i want to build something to pull it done... but mostly i don't have this problem. I'm also using the BED_LEVELING_BILINEAR.

But my actual Problem is that it stops printing well after some layers... (the tower should also be higher)

also i added my cura settings.
Last week it prints very well and also larger objects.
i also tried to print slower but that isn't working... now i print with 80mm/s.

I print with Octoprint which works really well for me :)

Maybe one of you have some advice for me?

thank you :)

NEW X5S TIPS AND TRICKS

by nvoort01

Okay everyone, I have spent the past week doing all the homework I can on the X5S. I just ordered the X5S-400 from GB. It would be incredible to get some advice from this group to help make it smoother to get it running well. I already have a stock CR-10 but I really want to make this X5S into a beast of a printer. The current upgrades I have planned are listed below, please provide any advice if applicable.

1) I am well aware of the heated bed problem. I ordered a 24V power supply that takes 110 or 220V input and spits out 12V 20A. I also ordered the recommended mosfet. I have seen several different opinions on how to best install these parts. Currently my plan is to dedicate the power source to the bed. Any recommendations or links to detailed installations would be awesome. Here is the link to the power source: https://www.gearbest.com/3d-printer-parts/pp_540281.html?wid=1433363

2) I ordered an V6 J-head Extruder (1.75mm) Volcano Block Long Distance Nozzle kit as well. I have not read much about this being a problem to install.

3) I am also well aware of the belt alignment issues. As soon as possible I will be printing the upgraded mounts and ordered a nice GT2 5m belt to replace the apparently crummy stock one. I also got a handful of springs to keep the belt nice a tight for high speeds.

4) I ordered several aluminum heat sinks for the motors

5) I ordered a TEVO Titan Extruder kit. I have not read anything about this except that it is a very good upgrade.

6) I plan on enclosing the printer as well as adding an exhaust fan + HEPA filter

7) I will also be sure to spend plenty of time reinforcing the frame

This is the extent of the upgrades I plan to immediately making. ANY advice on these steps is very much appreciated even if it is just a link that I can follow for help.

I very much want to run an auto-level inductance sensor on this machine as well as octoprint. However after many hours of research I am just as confused as when I started. Something about updating the firmware to Marlin? Seems like an 8mm inductance sensor works great even with glass but I need to wire up a few resistors? But with the X5S I need to change the software or something? I would really like some pointers on how to make these two upgrades work. I have zero experience with making these changes within a printer so do not be afraid to dumb things down.

Thank you all in advance.
