DIY Raspberry Pi Gameboy
Made by Treespirit, uploadedDescription
Hi guys,
...where do I start?
I modified so much on this thing...
As you can see I added two more buttons on the front (actually three) and two on the back.
I also added a little Speaker and a amplifier.
The circut board from the original controller was a pain in the a#*,
and I could´t get it to fit perfectly....so I made my own with a lot of buttons.
The buttons are controlled with an old keybord circut board which is hooked to one usb port of the pi.
It was all made with parts I had lying around (except the screen...which was the only thing I bought for this project),
thats why I had to adjust nearly everything inside to fit my parts.
(Sorry Adafruit but your stuff is very expensive here in Germany)
A lot of ports were removed from the pi to make it fit better. I also used a low profile SD adapter and covered the original hole.
Printed in 4 parts, sanded and painted...(a lot of work)
This baby runs perfectly on RetroPie and is a lot of fun :)

The remix is online :)

Have fun building it
This has made my day, I have been wanting to make the ada fruit pi boy for a while now but haven't been sure as you can't play all the timeless classics I love on the SNES I'm very impressed. I would very much appreciate it if you were able to make a tutorial of how you made this. Thanks! Keel on making great projects like this! :)
Hi. cool mod!
I am also working on a RPI powered game console, and is very close to the assembling part :) However I don't know how to "name the buttons"/ write on the buttons, so that you can see what button you are pressing. How did you make the black text telling what the button name, and the PI BOY ADVANCE logo?
very nice build!
Its a printable foil...the same as the little pictures you get with plastik models...only you can print it yourself
HI, great Iidea with the keyboard controller :)
I made something similar with some more buttons and a normal TFT screen (4,x inch).
You can see some pictures here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/guinthereal/sets/72157646818549109/
Looks great! What emulator do you use?
Same as you, I think :) RetroPi.
please upload some of those files! looks fantastic!
I've uploaded some stl here (but normally I'm using another place to manage my projects)
Very nice mod. I'm wondering, do you not need shoulder left and right buttons for many of the advance games?
?....second picture...?
Back side -> shoulder buttons
;)
Oh, I was looking on the shoulder of the case, where they appear on the advance. Are those recessed buttons hard to press during a game? I suppose your index fingers would be curled around in that direction so it probably works fine.
Excellent job packing all that stuff into such a small case. I probably would have scaled the case thicker to accommodate all of it.
well...you have to get used to it.
But it works surprisingly well.
Lol, I was working on the exact same project thinking I would be the only one. Well done! I'm not done yet but am hoping to have it ready in the next week or so.
Awesome! Please show it! I'm realy curious
I finally got around to finishing. Still needs a little work but it's do-able now.

Will do! Just need to get over the printing issues I'm having. Getting my heated bed upgrade on Monday or Tuesday so hopefully that does the trick.
Looking forward to a write-up on this. This will be my first project with the Pi, and I am beyond excited. Watching for your remix
Ok, I will do a remix :)
But give me some days... I have to clean the 3d model first...
...and make some lists and everything else.
Hi, this looks great. Could you post a parts list and diagrams if you have them, and a remix please? I'd love to build this version.
raspberry pi 1 or 2 ?
Pi 1 Model B
Hi, nice mods! Could you consider to post a remix from the original (and, if possible document it)? Yours seems like nice improvement from the original.
