My second make was picture perfect. I printed it at 4 inches across, with the following settings in Cura for support:
- Support Type: Everywhere
- Under "..." for "Support Type":
- Structure Type: Grid
- Fill Amount: 0.0 (no fill)
- Distance X/Y: 0.9
- Distance Z: 0.15
The trick here is that by using a grid support without fill causes Cura to make a thin-walled spiral support that totally fills the insides of the sphere and holds up the spiral arms of the loxodrome. Because the support is single walled, it is easily crushed and with some elbow grease, needle nose pliers and scissors can be removed entirely and relatively cleanly (it's relatively wasteful, however, as the majority of the plastic will go into the support).
