Using my thru-hole remix of the circuit board, I built one of these cool toys. I printed it in ABS on my 2016 FlashForge Creator Pro with a color-scheme close to the original. It was fun playing around with different magnets and particularly with ones that you could get to oscillating and see how long you can keep it oscillating without pushing it too far one way or the other. Here's a video clip of such an oscillation.
Another interesting thing was seeing the magnetic strength vs. weight interaction with the magnets and their equilibrium with gravity. If the magnet was really strong for its weight, it was really hard to get it to balance. To resolve that, you could stack additional magnets to add more weight. The height of the stack distributed the magnetic field over a distance, causing it to essentially add more weight for the given magnetic strength, making it easier to balance. Alternately, too little magnet strength with too much weight was also hard to balance, but in the other direction. I think I could sit and play with this thing for hours!
