I have long admired the OpenForge project and the quality of models presented. While I'm not a fantasy wargamer, I was keen to print off and paint up something from the series. The opportunity arose when, after a 25 year ban on decorating the family Christmas Cakes (for the Indian and Tiger attack on Father Christmas and his Reindeer scene), I was allowed a hand in decorating the 2016 cake. So what I came up with was a Zombie theme, which was where a cool piece like this grate could be used to good effect. You know, a few gravestones, some of Dutchmoguls zombies, and other stuff. Unfortunately I had to be sensible .... what's wrong with my siblings? They've all gotten old and boring!
Anyway, this grate will find use in a stop motion animation (without zombies ..... well maybe I could include a couple) I am working on. If I ever get it done.
The model base was shortened a bit which made it a little prone to bending, but not enough to be a problem.
Undercoat - black metal etch primer.
Top coat - student acrylics and a rather anemic silver paint.
