I wanted to see if I could make gym badges for a few Pokemon GO events I was going to do in my local community. I came across BlueFenix's work, and realized that these might work quite well with a small adjustment, a little post-processing, and some paint.
I started by firing them up in TinkerCAD, sizing them to a 30mm scale (sized the 8th badge on the diagonal to make it stay in scale), and then placed a 2mmx2mmx23mm slot in the bottom of each one. They printed out how you see them in the first two pictures. Then I flipped them over and used a print pen and a soldering iron (you could probably get away with just the soldering iron and some leftover filament) to seal the tiny safety pins into the badges.
The paints were cheap acrylics you can get at the same big-box store you got the safety pins at. The 1st badge is painted, but the silver metallic color I used just makes it a little shiny. Might re-do that one. The frame and felt are also cheap bits found at the same big-box store. I put the badges on the felt, and sandwiched the glass pane between the felt and the back plate. I moved the hanger hardware to the longer side in case someone wanted to hang them on the wall.
I think I am going to hand these out, affixed to a piece of felt in a 4x8 picture frame, for the next Community Day as a prize. :)
