Jim's Flying Motor Mount Dual Extruder
Made by jb_, uploadedDescription
Application of Jims Flying extruder, along with a vertical mount I made to fit it to the vertical X carriage of a Prusa i3 (which can be found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:422174). Unfortunately, I had some torque problems when trying to print (I only use 3mm filament, and I seemed to have a little trouble driving it consistently), but I think the design is great!
Hello. Ho to connect and tune second extruder? I am novice in 3d printing)))
Check out step 9 and onwards in the instructable doctek has written. I fully details how to assembly and mount the extruder: http://www.instructables.com/id/Build-a-Dual-Extruder-for-3D-Printing/
Jb, what filament were you using?
I'd like to go with this design but i've already had torque issues occasionally with my i3.
I used 3mm ABS filament when I tried to print (its the only diameter I use). Which extruders have you had torque issues with?
Nicely done! You will need fairly powerful NEMA 14 steppers and everything must be carefully aligned for low resistance.I needed fans on my steppers to keep them working reliably.
Hmmm, I see. I think the motors by themselves were ok. I guess it was probably a more a problem of alignment somewhere, though really I'm not sure. I spent a quite while trying to solve it, but couldn't find the root cause. To add to that I didn't have fans on anything, and it was as you say getting very hot. Anyway, I really liked the design! Very outside the box!
