I had a dead spot in my yard so i figured I would make the Stargate. The only problem is that I have an illegal alien (I mean undocumented resident) already sneaking into my yard. I guess I should have put the Stargate on the other side of the fence.
This is Carlz Stargate ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4357034 ) but I split each RING file into two pieces and printed this at 150%. Splitting the rings allowed me to print on a 300x300 print bed. Once assembled, the Stargate is 5 feet tall. I printed the other pieces at 150%. I cutout the lens portion of the Chevron using 3D Builder and made a lens using transparent PETG.
I used automotive marker lights that sit behind for each Chevron lens. I glued everything up with Scigrip 16 and attached 1x4's in an octagon fashion on the back to give it added support. I covered everything in the back with fiberglass mesh and Bondo resin. I also covered the entire front with Bondo resin. I did all of this to make sure it retains its shape in the summer. I attached galvanized ground rods to the 1x4's and let them protrude into holes I made in the ground and filled the holes with concrete. I added a green lens landscape light and a 34 inch tall alien to complete things.
I painted both sides with gray spray paint. Once this dried, I did a black wash over the whole structure. Once that was complete, I just painted some burnt umber around the ring and symbols.
Esun PETG and PLA
Since I did not print the whole thing in PETG, I added resin to re enforce things. My plan was not to put it outside at first so that is why some of it is PLA and I did the resin thing.
