I'm just a lifetime Computer Industry Journeyman. Currently an IT Director at a large school district. As this is my "Retirement Job", I have been focused a lot more on my passions over the past few years while ensuring all of our students have all the tools they need to be successful.
I'm a self taught programmer (amateur), Currently teaching myself and taking courses on electrical engineering, focusing on DC power and all the amazing things that can be done with micro-controller technology, currently making the move from making PCB's and filling them with thru-hole devices and starting to get comfortable with all surface mount technology.
Creating all of these wonderful gadgets got me to wishin' I had some cool containers to mount them in, and so I cashed in some BTC and picked up a 'like-new' Taz 5 about 18 months ago. Wow, I had no idea how much I had to learn. Thought you just flipped a switch and any printed part you wanted fell out the back magically. :-) -- 6 months of learning and printing micro cases, spare drone parts, pieces to repair the wifes appliances as well as building a 3D MPCNC, (more learning) I realized this was an awesome workhorse and so acquired a second. They run night and day. It's quite addictive. I was recently at lunch with a friend of mine discussing building one from scratch and he said you should come buy and pick up one of these Craftbot XL's. We've got a warehouse full of em. And now there are three printers in my Imagineering room / Office here at the house. The Craftbot has been adopted by my daughter and wife and after comparing it to the Lulzbot.... I'm okay with that... Hope I didn't hurt anyones' feelings.
Anyhow, that's me now, the last 50 years of me would require another 1000 or so pages, so I'll just stick with that.
Thingiverse.com is an outstanding community and I've learned you get out of it what you put in. It's great how there is always someone who will answer a question and I look forward to being able to pay it forward as often as possible.
Oh... And apparently, something is broken with the "What 3D printer do you use?" because no matter how many times I chose and hit save, it continued to say choose a model.... I got bored so I told the machine I did not own one. Because I am very very sneaky....
