It currently is questionable as the current feature set is behind compared to Cura and Repetier.
Having bought the product I justified the price by the fact it was free for life and updates may make it better.
It is buggy, I cannot use usb connection I have to save to sd and print from sd due to CRC errors connection, works perfectly on cura and repetier.
Simplify3d will drop the free for life licensing from version 4 and you will have to pay for updates.
For the hobbiest this will be a total waste of money.

Ok.. so i think i may have found the answer to my question. In case anyone wants to test it out, in your start code replace G1 F9000 with G1 Z15.0 F9000. I think it needs the Z15.0 in there to tell it to raise up before it goes in. I looked in the gcode of a cura file and it puts that in there automatically. Im out of town right now or id test it out, so if you test it let me know if it works!

120mm/s: 26:59
120mm/s With Limits: 27:22

Seems really consistent as long as I timed it right. I started timing right when the first print move starts and ended when the last one stopped. Looks like 46 seconds saved moving the speed up to 120mm/s, then 23 seconds when it is limited to only 120mm/s on the X axis!

If I print a file with many straight lines horizontally on the x axis, this max speed increase would be very helpful. How do I change this maximum allowed X speed value? Another instance would be printing a line with a slope of 7/12, with both set to max speeds of 70mm/s, the y axis would slow down to 40.83mm/s while the x axis is at 70mm/s, it's current maximum? If I could change the max x speed to 120mm/s, it could print this line with its full speed potential. 70mm/s on the y and 120mm/s on the x. I am aware of the limitations of the use of this speed but would like to enable it to do so if it is possible.

But if you think about it, that makes no sense. The axis speeds are absolutely not independent of one another.

The slicer breaks down the model into travel moves which are straight lines between two X,Y coordinates.

The nozzle has to travel that path, and to do so the printer must move X and Y at the speeds that when combined produce the required vector. If you moved one axis faster than the other then the nozzle would not move on the required path.

However, most (all?) firmwares allow setting of maximum travel speed separately for each axis. When the GCODE calls for a move with a linear speed that would exceed one axis speed, the whole move (including extrusion) is slowed down so that it all happened at the same, lowest common denominator rate.

You can demonstrate this very easily. If you observe how fast your printer moves when you issue an XY move like G1 X150 Y150 F8000 and then run the same move with Z100 as well, you will see that the move involving Z is very much slower because Z has a slower maximum feedrate.

Is there a way in Simplify3D to make the X and Y axis speeds independent from each other? I have an E3D V6 bowden setup on my Anet A8, so it is very light. The Y axis is much heavier so I want to run it at a slower speed so I do not get any "echos/waves" when I am printing. Currently I can print at 70mm/s on both axes just fine, but I believe I'd be able to get my X axis up to 120mm/s or so while keeping the Y the same.

Okay, I have already changed much as what you have suggested, so we are more or less in the same boat, I will probably buy a new printer when I can, but as you said this was my first printer and I have learnt alot from it, cheers mate

That looks like a Geeetech i3 clone. I have one just like that. I'm sorry to say but that printer is a piece of crap. I've upgraded mine with numerous fixes (new rods, leadscrews, Pulleys, Igus bearings, ball bearings, heatbed, extruder, hotend, motors and controller board is now a Smoothieboard - the works. Only thing left is the frame which was reasonable useful. Could have used my money in a much better way but on the upside I got really good insight in 3D printer analysis and tweaking. Next time I probably will build my own from scratch, something like the Hypercube. I definitely got the knowledge by now.

If you still get banding, try replacing the XY drive pulleys. Mine were eccentric enough to produce oblong circular shapes in the XY plane. This can also produce irregularities in any of the perimeters.
