The cpu fan is torn down and the leads are directly wired to the coils of the motor because the cpu fan has a controller to drive the brushless motor. a small bridge rectifier turns the AC pulses into DC current. I used a solar landscape light for the circuit board that controls charging the battery and turning on an LED when it is dark enough to trigger the photocell. I painted the circuit board with insulating paint to stop rain from messing with it. elastic band is the coupler between the turbine and the generator.

I didnt design it very well, many bandaid solutions to problems that came up. more of a prototype for a bigger design. I also put the generator on the wrong side and glued it in so oh well. should be on the back to help the wind move it in the direction of the wind like a tail. it has survived an 80 kph wind.

(Original can be found here: http://www.durovis.com/index.html).

I liked the idea behind this but after printing the actual device there was a few bits that I didn't get on with so decided to start playing with Google sketchup to come up with my own version.

I printed this out on a RepRap so should print out fine on any 3d printer. You can then use the native Android Demos from the OpenDive website. Or you canuse the Vireio Perception drivers along with FreePIE and Splashtop to stream PC games to your phone in 3D with headtracking (This is not as good as a proper HMD such as the Oculus Rift but it does work!!)

This was designed to be used with my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone. But it should work with any Android Smartphone of a similar size.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogham

You can use the construction kit on Tinkercad https://tinkercad.com/things/eJSxcYvqC6Q or download the pieces you need and put them together using your favorite CAD software.

Text should be written vertically, from bottom to top, with the center vertical lines connected together like the trunk of a tree (see examples). If you write text horizontally rotate the letters 90 degrees clockwise, so lines on the right end up pointing down.

The authentic Ogham alphabet does not contain the letters J, K, P, V, W, X, or Y, so substitutes have been included here.

When done, resembled one of Bender's eyes. A co-worker said it looked like a Venus Fly trap, so named it "Venus Box".

A cam actuates 4 doors by rotating the spherical cover (or base). Remains securely open or closed. 4 inch diameter, the whole thing snaps together, and prints without supports.

Print Cam at 0.3 or lower, with 2 shells and 20% infill, no raft.
Print Cover with raft at 0.3 or lower, 2 shells, 20% infill.
Print the doors with raft at 0.2 or lower, with 3 shells and 20% infill.

NOTE: Trim the triangular nuggets off the door hinges, they're only there to help the build.

Slide the doors together, posts go into the hooked holes, don't snap these together.
If you print the Cam at 0.3, use sand paper, file or soldering iron to smooth out the stair steps on the 4 lower race faces (cam tracks) before assembling.

Enjoy :)

EDIT 5/20/16: Added Parasolid files
EDIT 5/24/16: Added "NT" (no trim) door files, without the triangular build helper nuggets.
EDIT 6/13/16: Added COVER2.STL that has more snap, print only if your cover is loose.
EDIT 6/14/16: Thingiverse Featured. "elegant Venus Box" :)
EDIT 1/9/17: Added COVER3.STL for even a tighter fit for multiple material type prints.

In addition to the printed parts, you'll need a glass vial (10ml / 3 dram, 19mm diameter by 65mm long) filled with red liquid, some wire, a pin (I used a round-headed quilter's pin), and a printed face for the gauge (PDF included). Since those vials are apparently difficult to find individually, I've found that test tubes commonly sold in hobby stores (15mm by 100mm) work fairly well if you cut them down and wrap a little Tamiya masking tape around the ends to hold them snugly in place.

Update: User WickedMii found a site which sells the proper-sized vials in lots of 12 (much more affordable than the lots of 100 that I was able to find).

The original game model had a slightly bent clip on the end of the left arm. I've recreated this, but I've also included a "straight" version that mirrors the right clip.

Since it's real Dutch weather here, I wanted to keep my kids a bit busy and being creative (besides dad getting creative :P )

Made a sculpt of a Monarch Butterfly and the primary idea here is that kids can paint it themselves (acrylics) and to be really creative ( I got young kids ;-) ) you can trace the wings seperate with a pencil or pen, color it's wings and glue it for example to the back. After that, get a piece of string and hang it up!

I know, it's not THAT exciting but hey, as long as it keeps kids happy ;-)
