There are a few differences to the original:

The spoon bowls nest concentrically.
The bowls are placed with their centers equidistant from the center of the handle, instead of at the end of equal length arms.
The bowl volumes are mathematically accurate.
The default arm lengths are shorter than the originals.
To nest, the center of the handle bump for the large spoon is lowered. I think in the original, the center of the handle bump for the small spoon is raised.
There are no markings.

Most dimensions are customizable.

As in the original version, there are two spoons, one with Tbsp and Tsp, and the other with half tsp and quarter tsp measures.

There's already plastic model kit versions out there, and a papercraft version (which I've built), but they tend to accomplish the folding by having you take parts off, then put them back in the "folded" position. Good excuse to play with designing things that print with built-in joints!

Included on the first tab in Customizer are 6 prebuilt birdhouse designs, each designed to be the "dream home" for a specific bird. I've also included the ability to add a text label to the front of each house (do birds have addresses?). Additionally all of my birdhouse designs incorporate venting to keep our fine feathered friends nice and comfortable (birds get hot too you know) which was suggested online.

I used this document to create houses at appropriate dimensions for whatever kind of bird you're trying to house. You can read more about birdhouse building guidelines here:

We wanted to have a track lighting system similar to what one would find in a full-size museum. This lets the curator light pieces individually to help set off works in different ways. Each spot light is posable and has a can to create a crisp light cone.

This is a miniature track lighting system using standard through-hole 6mm LEDs as the light sources. The tracks themselves are simply stiff wires that run in parallel along the ceiling, holding the lights in place with magnets. This is designed to have 5V 1A rails and can support up to 25 LED spot lights.

Note: the notch to mark the polarity shown in the photos is inverted from the files here. After creating the photographed ones, I realized that it'd make more sense to publish with the notches matching that of LEDs (marking the negative/cathode instead of the anode).

The source files of the openSCAD files are in the The Mµseum git repository

Micro Planter Chess Set

This is XYZ Workshop's winning entry into the MyMiniFactory chess and Pen design competition.

The design is loosely based on a Bauhaus Style Chess set. We were interested in blending the simple strong geometric forms of the chess pieces with nature. The chess pieces allows nature lovers to integrate their favorite succulents or herbs into their game play.

Each Chess piece can be planted with specific herbs or succulents to give them a level of individuality and personality. This also allows the player to assign unique textures, colors and smell to the pieces. Use some Corsican Mint to bring some minty freshness into you game, or perhaps a series of hard wearing cacti if you don't have a green thumb.

We have also included a printable/portable chess board skin, measuring only 0.6mm thick. Printing four of these allows the player to turn any flat surface into their chessboard. Make this Green Chess set a feature in your garden, or bring the garden into your living room.

Rather than spend time printing springs for a project, I made this little mold to make them out of raw 3mm PLA filament. It measures 3/4" by 3" tall. Since there are no shear planes in this twisted filament, the springs it creates will be a lot tougher than anything printed.

I think this concept could be used to produce torsion springs as well as conical compression springs with different molds.

If you wrapped the filament around a dowel with the sides of the filament touching, you could make an extension spring instead of a compression spring.

Replicator 2 Extruder Upgrade

This extruder upgrade for the Replicator 2 replaces the Delrin plunger with a pinch roller. Using the spring specified in the parts list below, this pinch roller provides about 60N of force on the filament, which provides enough driving pressure on the filament, in combination with the stepper drive gear to prevent stripping.

Unlike other designs, this one uses a pin style bush on which the pinch arm rotates. This provides a large lower friction surface for the pinch wheel arm to rotate on, and allows the mounting screw to be fully tightened so there is no chance of it working loose.

I have extensively tested this design, which has evolved through numerous iterations, and I have also tested several different springs. With the specified spring I can hold the drive gear with my thumb and pull hard on the filament without it stripping, and its done numerous unattended prints with troublesome clear PLA filament - so I can confidently say it works.

UPDATE (Mar 4th 2013)

In v7 I have added a filament guide slot to the bottom of the backing plate. I added a spring channel to hold the spring in place and stiffen the backing plate. I redesigned the arm geometry to make it pivot better - compressed and uncompressed. I altered the pin so one side now holds the base plate down against the stepper motor.

This extruder upgrade was designed using an ACIS solid in Shark FX/ViaCAD (vc3 file included) so will behave well with Makerware, ReplicatorG and skeinforge. There are also STEP files that can be imported into other CAD programs.
