Slime Rancher - Dervish, Fire, Tangle and Mosaic Slimes

Adding to my 3D Printed slime collection this time is the Dervish Slime, Fire Slime, Tangle Slime and the shiny Mosaic Slime. I created the models in Fusion 360, with the exception of the Mosaic Slime, which I used ZBrush for.

After I finished modeling I prepared the models using Simplify3D, Meshmixer and NanoDLP and printed them out on my Wanhao D7 using FunToDo Snow White resin.

Then my wife painted these slimes using a combination of primer, airbrush and brush paints. She mostly used the airbrush for the main colors and all the fancy gradient work. Then she used her paintbrush for the smaller details like the eyes and mouth.

I'm really happy with how these came out. Let me know what you think! And I'll be adding more to this Slime Rancher series very soon!

If you'd like to see more details, watch here: https://youtu.be/JbM4lfS2Fps

Today we're bringing you a 3D printed Stitch from the Disney movie Lilo and Stitch. Stitch is such an iconic character, and it was really fun to make into a full figure.

I modeled the whole thing in ZBrush in one sitting. It took about 6 hours from start to finish. I mostly used Dynamesh and just move things around until I get them looking right. Then I exported the model and cut off the bottom with Meshmixer so it would sit on the bed and print a bit easier.

I've included both the cut off model and the full model just in case someone wants to print it in a different orientation. I printed it on the CR10 at a 0.5mm layer height. It came out really good on top and really bad on the bottom.

Chelsey had to file and sand the crap out of it to smooth out the rough areas, and there were actually a few areas towards the bottom that she had to use putty to basically resculpt the geometry to make it look right. But she did an amazing job.

After that she primed it with filler primer, used an airbrush to paint on the main blue, then filled in all the details with acrylic paints and a paint brush. Then after the whole thing was dry she sprayed a glossy clear coat on it.

I've been working on this one for a few months now. And I was finally able to get it completed with the help of the CR10 allowing me to print really tall pieces.

This is a full size movie prop from the Batman V Superman DCEU movie. I tried to create it to match the size and proportions as in the movie.

After printing my wife sanding it, hit it with filler primer, then used spray paint to get the main color. Then she finished it off by using acrylic paints and a paintbrush to paint on the black areas.

It's finally time we add another model to our Plants vs Zombies shelf. Citron and Peashooter were getting lonely, so I created the Sunflower to keep them company.

I created the model in ZBrush. I started by shaping the head and pulling out the stem so I can sort of see the proportions and start filling in the rest of the features like the petals and facial details. I mostly created one petal and patterned it around the face. Reusing assets saves a ton of time.

Then I printed it out on my Wanhao D7 resin printer. It was my first real model I printed on it and it came out way better than I thought it would. I had a bit of lifting from the bed, but other than that, it printed absolutely flawlessly.

Then I handed it off to Chelsey to do her magic. She primed it up then began painting it using her airbrush for the main colors and gradients, then using paintbrushes and acrylic paints to add the last details.

So challenge accepted!

I created the model in ZBrush. It took maybe 3 hours of modeling to create it. Then I printed it out on my new CR10. It took roughly 10 hours to print at 0.1mm layer height.

Then my wife post processed it by sanding the crap out of it and filling it with filler primer. After repeating that a couple times she started painting it with acrylic paints and small paintbrushes. After painting she coated the entire object with a glossy clear coat.

It's time for more Slimes from Slime Rancher! I'm bringing the new Quantum Slime as well as new variations on the Rock Slime, Crystal Slime, Boom Slime, and Honey Slime. The Rock Slime is even a hungry face.

I created these in Fusion 360 using my existing Slime files so I can just copy the base body and add the new details. So doing that I was able to create each of these new slimes. I also added some better spikes/crystals for the crystal slime.

After printing my wife painted it. She didn't even need to sand it, and that right there makes SLA worth it for us. She was able to get to the painting process very quickly compared to the FDM models I give her. And for the crystal slime she used a latex coat to mask off the crystals from the paint. Then she peeled it off after painting and coated it with a clear top coat that she also uses on her nails. They came out really amazing.

Roberto is finally here! I actually modeled this one a bit ago but I knew it would be very hard to print at a reasonably small scale on my FDM printers. And I knew an SLA printer was heading my way for review, so I waited and it was well worth the wait.

Roberto came out amazing. The supports pulled away extremely easy as long as I was careful to not bend the limbs too far. I actually removed them while wet, using fully gloved hands. There were a few zits where the supports were, but they were minor. The area under the eyes drooped slightly, but that was due to too few supports in that area.

After printing my wife painted it. She hardly needed to sand it, and that right there makes SLA worth it for us. She was able to get to the painting process very quickly compared to the FDM models I give her.

Chip was getting a little lonely, so I decided to create Mrs. Potts to join him! I also decided to make her hollow and her lid removable, so she doubles as a container. You could also put liquids in this because the spout is hollow as well. But I don't recommend drinking anything out of it unless you can seal it extremely well with food safe stuff.

With Pokemon Go having just released the generation 2 Pokemon, I figured it was a great time to add some of them to my 3D Printed Pokemon collection. So first up is Hoothoot.

I modeled this in Fusion 360. Printed it on my Da Vinci 1.0 Pro using Hatchbox PLA. Then my wife painted it using acrylic paints and paintbrushes.

Any fans of Rick and Morty out there? I hope so because today I bring you Rick Sanchez. He's just in a standing pose, holding a flask, and having a dull, not interested look on his face.

I created the model in ZBrush Core. This is actually the first full model I've done in this program, so it was quite the learning experience.

With the live action Beauty and the Beast movie just around the corner, I figured it would be the perfect time to create some of the characters from that movie.

So this is Chip. The little cup with a chip in the side from the 1991 animated movie. I created the model in Fusion 360 using the sculpting environment to get the main shape. Then I finished up the face details with sketches.

After it was finished printing, my wife painted it. She started by using automotive filler primer. Then she painted him using acrylic paints and paintbrushes. Then to finish it up, she sprayed it with a glossy clear coat.

It's Super Meat Boy! I love this game and I love the character as well. My wife was the one who created this model in ZBrush Core. She started with cylinders for the body and limbs and just started sculpting to get the shape, and then added in the details of the face.

After that I imported it into Meshmixer. I used the plane cut tool to cut off a little extra on the feet so he would stand on his own. Then I sent it over to my printer and printed it out (settings below).

Finally my wife painted it up using a combination of spray paint and paintbrush techniques. I describe it in more detail in the video and I've uploaded the full painting video as well, if you're interested in that.

Who doesn't love a good Claptrap? Well lots of people I guess, but I really like this little guy. His antics kept me entertained through the Borderlands games so I knew that I wanted to create one of these for myself.

I created the model in Fusion 360. I used sketches almost exclusively to create this. I started out by lofting two sketches together to get the main body shape. Then I just proceeded to sketch out all the details I could see. I resized as I went to make sure everything looked proportional.

After it I printed it out (settings below), I handed it off to my wife who sanded the crap out of it, glued it together, primed it, and painted it using a combination of spray paint, airbrush, and paintbrush techniques.

It's the last day of #3DPrintmas! And we're ending it with a bang. It's a full sized Keyblade Prop from the game Kingdom Hearts. This is Riku's Keyblade when he turns into Riku Ansem. Also called the Keyblade of People's Hearts.

I created the model in Fusion 360 by tracing a sketch and revolving the blade part. Then extruded the spiky bits at the top and the handle guards. I also created pins to hold the different pieces together and I labeled the inside of each piece so it's easier to tell where things go to assemble it.

Then my wife glued all the pieces together. Used repair putty to fill the seams. She sanded the crap out of it and sprayed with a few coats of filler primer. Then she painted it with some hammered metal and some black spray paint (Red for the handle guards). Then hand painted the purple and gold parts around the handle.

I've been wanting to make this model for a long time now. But I knew this would be very difficult for my wife to finish. But she's gotten to the point that she's so good with this type of stuff. I knew that she could do it now.

So the model is very simple, it's just a sphere cut in half, with 4 stars sticking out of the top of it. It prints with no supports needed.

So in order to finish it, my wife sanded it a bit to reduce the visibility of layer lines, then she primed the crap out of it after gluing it together. In order to fill the seam she used repair putty to fill the crack, then sanded and primed some more. After it was smooth, she sprayed the entire thing yellow with an airbrush. Then she went back and lightly sprayed it with orange to give it a sort of iridescent look. Then she painted the stars with a paint brush. And to wrap the entire thing up, she sprayed it a bunch with a glossy coat.

More Pokemon! This time we're adding Oddish. And I made it a requirement for this build to make it printable without supports. And I think it came out really well.

I created this model in Fusion 360 by mostly sculpting the big shapes while looking at a few reference images of Oddish. I started with the main body shape, then created the foot and leg, then finished it up by creating a big leaf to go on the head. After that I mirrored the leg, and created 5 different copies of the leaf to complete the head. Then finally I created a sketch to add on the mouth and eye details.

When it comes to 3D printing, I have the spiciest memes. This time around I created some of the iconic meme faces. These are mostly black and white cartoon like faces, and they translate excellently to 3D printed objects.

I created these in Fusion 360 by importing SVGs of the pictures. Then I extruded them up at different heights. Then to print them out, I used the filament swap method where I just paused the print once they got to the black details, and swapped out my white filament for black filament, then let it continue on its way.

For today's #3DPrintmas model I'm bringing Bugdroid to the party. Bugdroid is the mascot for the Android operating system. He's a pretty simple shape but he's pretty recognizable and fun.

I created it in Fusion 360 by taking an SVG file of his outline, I cut it in half and revolved the body around the center axis to give it the cylindrical body.

Then I handed it off to my wife for painting. She used a sponge with some acrylic paints for the green all over the body. Then she used a paintbrush for the black eyes and she also painted black around the insides of the head and body to give it a darker look inside that crack.

It's time to bring the 3D Printmas South Park videos to a close with the last installment. In this one we have the South Park sign hanger, and who better to top the tree than Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo.

To create these I followed the same process as the preview south park characters. I imported pictures and traced them with a sketch in Fusion 360. I also printed an oval to go behind Mr. Hankey so he could be more easily seen, and a topper base to allow the topper to sit on the tree without falling off.

Then my wife painted them up with acrylic paints like the previous ones. I also printed out some Member Berries (info above) to throw on the tree. Then decorated the tree up with light toppers and all the characters. And that brings us to our full South Park Christmas tree!

My last entry into the block zoo for #3DPrintmas! This one is a peacock. I thought this one would be fun because peacocks have a lot of crazy features.

So I created this in Fusion 360. I started with a block for the main features, then I sketched a feather for the tail and patterned it across the body. Then I added the smaller details like the eyes with a sketch.

After that my wife sprayed the body the main blue color. And then I went in with acrylic paints and paintbrushes to color in the tail and all the details.

I've been a big fan of Metallica since I was young. And they just released a new album that I actually like quite a bit. So I figured it was the perfect time to make myself a Ninja Star.

I created this in Fusion 360 by using sketches and an SVG file of the star to get the main shape. But then after a chamfer wasn't working for me, I traced one of the 'm's for myself and patterned it around. Then I chamfered the edges to give it a blade sort of look.

Then my wife painted it up using a metallic spray paint after sanding it a bit and using filler primer.

Diglett [Pokemon] - Easy to Print

It's time for Diglett! And no I wasn't magically able to figure out what he's hiding underneath the ground. So that'll remain a mystery.

But this model was pretty fun to do and it should be equally as fun to print as it doesn't require supports. I created it in Fusion 360 using a sketch to revolve the body. Then I used the sculpting mode to create a bumpy ground area around him. Then I added the facial details.

After I printed it, my wife took it, primed it and sanded it a bit to remove the layer lines. Then she painted it with acrylic paints and a paintbrush/sponge.

For today in #3DPrintmas I'm bringing you some gamify tokens. These are just some simple tokens that aim to help incentivize someone to do something they don't really want to.

I created this in Fusion 360 using simple sketches. I also included a tower that makes the tokens really easy to count. I made the coins relative in height so they stack to the height related to the value.

This is my second printed chess set. For this one I set out with the goal of just creating a chess set. It wasn't planned or anything and I tried not to hinder myself by being critical. I tried for just a pure creation process.

And I created this in Fusion 360, so you can probably see most of the features of these are a result of the tools available in Fusion 360. Coils and spirals make a lot of appearances. Let me know what you think.

This one is my second submission to the #3DBlockZoo. It's a Block Crab. I created it in Fusion 360 using a box for the body, angled boxes for the legs, filleted boxes for the claws, and cylinders and spheres for the eyes.

Then I painted it using acrylic paints and a paintbrush. I'm using these block zoo creatures to try to work on my painting skills as I've never really done any painting before. So not the best paint job, but I think I'm improving ever so slightly. :)
