Desktop Pool Table

A pool table just for your desk! The game features interchangeable layouts that offer different obstacles to make the game more interesting. Each player starts with four marbles (½" diameter peewee marbles, link to amazon posted below) which they place on the black dots at either end of the table. Using the miniature cues, they must each shoot through the holes in the side of the game to try to get all of their marbles into the pocket on the other side. There is a third hole on the side serving as a penalty hole; if a player hits a marble into this hole, they must place this marble back at its starting point and the other player gets an extra shot. You can also come up with your own rules for this hole, or for the game altogether!

The game is constructed from nine separate pieces: two support stands, two drawers to slide into these stands and to catch the marbles, two cues, the main frame, an interchangeable game field, and the side catch tray for the penalty hole. Two alternative playing fields are also included in the attached files.

To increase friction, I applied a layer of double-sided Scotch tape to the surface of the playing field and attached a small piece of white fabric on top, then cut out the holes and drew black dots for the marbles' starting positions. The model was assembled using super glue. Do not glue the drawers in place.

The total dimensions are 4.5" W x 6.5" L x 3.25" H (width including small bump-outs for cue holders = 4.875").

The Simple Car

A simple car designed in SketchUp and 3D-printed on a MakerBot Replicator 5th Edition. This print was also a test of the acetone vapor finishing: a small amount of acetone was heated over a hot plate in a sealed glass pot, with the model inside supported by four screws screwed into a wooden base to minimize contact surface area. After the model had been surrounded by the acetone vapors for several minutes, the pieces were removed and assembled using "Instant Arrow Glue" (comparable to Gorilla Glue or super glue). The attached model includes the main car body, four wheels, and two axles. Small washers were glued onto the sides of the wheel hubs to support the wheels and axles. Short segments of rubber bands may also be glued along the rims of the wheels to function as tires, which helps to increase traction and makes the model roll more easily.

There are twelve carts which spin independently as the wheel turns. The parts are divided into three print jobs--one for each color--and are intended to be printed on a MakerBot Replicator (5th Edition). Lots of assembly required! Gorilla Glue is recommended for assembly, but many pieces can rely on friction to snap together.
