Read about MathMod in a forum.
It's an amazing open source program for the plotting of formulae, and comes with a very extensive ranges of examples.
Scherk caught my eye as an intriguing shape and the (to me) amazing fact that it was the result of plotting a fairly simple formula: sinh(x)sinh(y)-sin(z)
With x and y ranging from -3 to +3, and z from -5pi/2 to +5*pi/2
Made solid and printable in Meshmixer so the result is a representation of Scherk tower but not exactly Scherk tower.
Printed in Polymaker Polysmooth on a Kodama Trinus and 'polyshed' in a Polymaker Polysher.

The printed model is quite small, scaled down to a height of 60mm.

The original 3D scan via Einscan S (Scanmaster Plus) was reworked in Meshmixer to produce two separate solids. It took much longer to do than I'd anticipated.
Printed in Robox PLA on an original Robox with the two colour conversion.
Pretty much at the limit of what is possible, I think, as the feet and talons are barely acceptable. I suspect this is partly because I had to scale the model down to fit in the Robox 100mm max height restriction.
Looks OK if not studied too closely.

This amazing carving, only one surface, is my favourite of my late mother's carvings. Blows my mind that this could be carved from one piece of wood. This probably indicates a great lack of aesthetic sense - or that I'm an engineer! OK - a tautology, I admit.
Anyway...
I found this very difficult to scan. In the end I 'bolted it together' which can be seen in one of the photos. Scanned with an Einscan S (Scanmaster Plus).
The scanning shortcomings - and the bolts - meant quite a lot of work in Meshmixer.
Sliced in Simplify 3D and printed full size on a Prusa Original i3 Mk2 in PLA.
Also printed half size on Kodama Trinus in PLA and 64% size in a Robox in ABS.

The scanner did not do a good job scanning the region behind the penguin's feet and below the body so I had to fix up the scan using Meshmixer.
BTW the 'egg' is a separate article so did not form part of the scan. The 'egg' was added in Meshmixer.
Neither of the two posted variants is easy to print due the support needed for the beak and wings. I've posted the penguin without egg as it is slightly easier to print as the support for the beak can project from the base rather than from the top of the egg.
Removing the support from underneath the body is a bit tedious.

And, yes, I know that a samisen is a three stringed instrument but the original carving has four tuning pegs. But what else can it be? Other than a four stringed three stringed samisen?

I used 3mm walls and 20% fill. Definitely needs support and extremely careful removal of support material after printing.

Lots of support and a raft.

This is the most delicate thing that I've made.
I used (and have only ever used) a 0.4mm orifice nozzle. This braid may well be easier to make with a smaller nozzle.
Designed in Moment of Inspiration (MoI) using a script written by user bemfarmer.
I tried making it in ABS on a Robox but the result was much less satisfactory that using PETG (as shown) on a Prusa Original i3 Mk2 using Simplify3D for slicing (and thus support generation).
This needs lots of support, and a raft, and fiddly post work.
Looks nice, though...
