Fully 3D printed letter board. The one from the pictures was printed on the BCN3D Sigma R17, but I've also added 3 standard photo sizes to make smaller ones using photo frames.

My patrons already have access to the source files in case they want to modify the board's size and adapt it to their needs.

In this video, I explain the design process and some tips when assembling it: https://youtu.be/R510B8RbNdo

I used Colorfabb nGen (letters and black board) and Colorfabb Woodfill for the frame.

Print your own salute to world peace!

I have also made a version to suspend from the ceiling or hang in a mobile: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1034386

The text I put on it is in Dutch, and translates to 'peace and good things', the signature greeting of Franciscan followers, like my grandmother, for whom I made this sculpture. I only included the blank version here.

The bird itself was not modelled by me; all props go to a guy called Peter Behrens on http://archive3d.net/?a=download&id=58b6be71 . I just made the stand and the branch, and made it more print-ready.

Depending on how you print it, you need hardly any support material. Some afterprint love is required though - which is only symbolically justifiable.

If you make one, please share the results!

Printable Trumpet

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:772936 is a better version of this trumpet if you're interested in building one.

This is a 17 piece printable trumpet. It was modeled somewhat after a Bach Stradivarius. I have printed one myself and the sound quality and playability is honestly pretty bad. The reason I am posting my files is so people can try their hand at improving the design and to print it for themselves.
You can see more pictures of mine here: http://imgur.com/a/k68R2

It takes a while to make this. Almost all the parts require post printing work and some require a lot of it. Probably 5ish days of just printing time.

Here is a video of me attempting to play it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1j_d2mSGng.
As I said, it doesn't play well at all.

If you have any design questions or need help please message me.

Edit (4/15/15) I uploaded the new version as a remix here. It's the same thing that was in the dropbox that I sent to some people earlier.

Edit (3/8/15) I have redesigned everything and started printing a new trumpet. The new version will be much more printer friendly (all the pieces will be under 5.5 inches) and I am fairly confident It will have a significantly better sound.

New parts added 2/8/15 Check instructions for details.

Froggy: the 3D printed ball-jointed frog doll

Here is my first ball-jointed doll. I have always been fascinated by these but shocked at the prices they command. When the excellent Sonia Verdu uploaded her beautiful Robotica, it inspired me to make my own doll for 3D printing. Whilst Froggy is not a derivation of any of her work, I should give Sonia credit, because if I hadn't had her work to refer to, it would have taken much longer to design this frog.

I made a prototype of Froggy back in February and took two prints to MRRF, where he generally got a positive response. After MRRF, I went to stay with my cousin and his family in Chicago for a few days, where my two "nieces" gave me detailed feedback on what they would change.

I returned home and left Froggy alone whilst I worked on other projects but I eventually returned to him and decided to add in the following features:

1) People will try to pose a doll like a human if it looks even slightly human. The original froggy was designed to move like a frog, so I humanised his proportions and movements. He can sit up and stand by himself. His head twists and is angled like a person's.

2) My mum suggested movable eyes, so I thought I'd see if I could do this. Hooray! I could.

3) He has jointed and posable fingers. Sometimes I just like making things difficult for myself:-)

He isn't the easiest model to print and assemble, but I really enjoyed making him.

Instructions on how to print and assemble Froggy are here:

http://www.instructables.com/id/Froggy-The-3D-printed-ball-jointed-frog-doll/

Froggy has a non-commercial license. If you would like to use him commercially then please contact me beforehand.

NOTE: I had missed out chest.stl on my initial upload. This is now present. Sorry for any confusion...
The file eyeball_pupil.stl has been replaced with one which has the correct orientation.
It was suggested I upload a combined and decimated version of the finger files. You can now print a finger at a time and it should take far less time to slice.
Uploaded a new version of finger_middle.stl as the original one was not slicing well in Simplify3D

Saturn V Rocket and Gantry

The Saturn V (spoken as "Saturn five") was an American human-rated expendable rocket used by NASA between 1966 and 1973. The three-stage liquid-fueled launch vehicle was developed to support the Apollo program for human exploration of the Moon, and was later used to launch Skylab, the first American space station. The Saturn V was launched 13 times from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida with no loss of crew or payload. The Saturn V remains the tallest, heaviest, and most powerful rocket ever brought to operational status and still holds records for the heaviest payload launched and largest payload capacity to low Earth orbit (LEO) of 118,000 kilograms (260,000 lb).[5][6]

The largest production model of the Saturn family of rockets, the Saturn V was designed under the direction of Wernher von Braun and Arthur Rudolph at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, with Boeing, North American Aviation, Douglas Aircraft Company, and IBM as the lead contractors. Von Braun's design was based in part on his work on the Aggregate series of rockets, especially the A-10, A-11, and A-12, in Germany during World War II.

To date, the Saturn V remains the only launch vehicle able to transport human beings beyond low Earth orbit. A total of 24 astronauts were launched to the Moon, three of them twice, in the four years spanning December 1968 through December 1972.

THANKS to Wikipedia for description.

Here is my 1/60th scale model of this iconic rocket and the mobile launch platform that I had done for a client. I had started the design/drawing in March 2014...and assembly was completed in December 2015

The Saturn V at this scale is just over 6 ft tall and the gantry is over 7.5 ft tall !!

. This model has moving gantry arms and crane....and each stage can be separated !!! it also has a Lunar lander with folding legs.

The design and drawing of this model took over 1200 hours and an estimated 2000 hours to print.
This model uses the following colors in PLA and the approximate weights of materials used:

True Red ........10 pounds
True Yellow....... 2 pounds
True White........ 8 pounds
True Black ........4 pounds
Warm Grey .......4 pounds
Cool Grey.........16 pounds
Army Green.......2 pounds
Ocean Blue .... only a couple of ounces.

It was built 99% using 2 Rep2's...and a Z18
The other 1% was Solidscape® MAX2 and a Objet500 Connex

Rather than using an equation to generate the final shape, I used OpenSCAD to build a straight base model and then reshaped it in ZBrush, a program that simulates clay modeling. This way I could interact with the shape in a fluid and organic way without worrying about the details of creating the base model. The combination of programming the base and then reshaping by hand seems to match my creative style.

The watch has a Swiss lever escapement. The mainspring inside the going barrel keeps the watch running for approximately 30-45 Minutes. Accuracy is roughly one Second deviation within one Minute (depending on print-settings).

The project demonstrates that the 3D-printing technology is developing. Compared with earlier generations of 3d-printers, the process works more reliable and more accurately. However it's still a very advanced project, because printing inaccuracies need to be trimmed manually with some watchmaker skills, or the watch won't tick.

So you have DMM, Oscope and other equipment probes or cables, but they seem to "walk away"? Why not corral them with this parametric probe holder!

This thing has been used for drafting pens, white board markers and trimming tools. But that's not all; this holder can hold any cylindrical thing. It can easily manage test cables, tools, syringes, and even test tubes (by changing the clasp arc to a closed ring).

Just download, or better yet open in customizer, and edit. Simply enter in number of probes, the shaft diameter and guard dimensions. You can leave the rest at the defaults if you really want to get in and get making.

You can optionally change the mount hole diameter, fastener (screw or bolt) type, and if you want a countersunk mount. Even add a center tab on a long holder.

You can also edit some advanced options for even finer control over the holder, but it's strictly not necessary.

Lastly you can make a tailored or bespoke holder to collect different kinds of probes in one holder. We show you how by editing the OpenSCAD file as outlined in instructions below.

Turn any 3D file into a night light!

Have a 3D printer and want a custom night light? All you need to do is find your favorite 3D model and use my Custom Night Light Kit to turn it into your personalized darkness illuminator!

How to Use

Watch the tutorial video for full instructions. Your goal is to use the negative to remove two pieces from your desired 3D model. Once these two parts are cut away from your model, you will be left with a custom night light cover that fits perfectly. You will need 123D Design (free) to open this file!

Night Lights: Maxxima MLN-16 LED Night Lights ($2.50 each)

Filament: Verbatim White PLA

3D Model Used: Low Poly Skull

3D Printer Settings

The thiner the walls, the better your night light! I use a 0.4mm nozzle with two shell layers and 0% infill. You may need to really dial down your speed in order to print with walls this thin, but I have found that I can print between 40-50mm/s with my Ultimaker 2.

Bing-shen year of Formosan monkey

Bing-shen year of Formosan macaques

In Chinese Zodiac, the year of the Monkey is in Feb. 8, 2016-Jan. 27, 2017. I designed Bing-shen year of Formosan macaques to celebrate the coming of a new year, and I hope to use this opportunity to draw attention for Formosan macaques in Taiwan.

Formosan macaques, Macaca cyclopis, have been inhabiting in Mountain Shou-shan in Taiwan for many years. In recent years, tourists or local residents involving in feeding macaques have been raising a controversial issue. The foraging behavior of these macaques have been changing, and the macaques have becoming dependent upon handouts increasingly. In addition, the intense monkey-human conflict have been occurred. Some of macaques snatched the food from tourists, and some even invaded into local houses. In response to these threat, the tourists or local residents around villages started to attack macaques. Some of macaques were found being poisoned and attacked by human as their body appeared with wounds. The conflict around villages were intense against the species and its protected status. Scientists reported that 200 of the species were missing. These were the worst environment for Formosan macaques habitation. Scientists started working on conservation measures to reduce the conflict, they tried to provide a less disturbed habitats for macaques. They suggested the best way to resolve the conflict is to stop feeding, disturbing and touching macaques, so that macaques can stop dependent on human and start back to their habitats.

As I designed Bing-shen year of Formosan macaques, I tried to left an imprint of time on their body. Thus, the foot of Bing-shen year of Formosan macaques are imprinted with Chinese words of Bing-shen.

Chinese sexagenary cycle is a means of recording days or years. Most of people believe that the year of the Monkey will be back in the period of 12 years. In fact, the same year of the Monkey will be back in a circulation of 60 years, that is, it takes 60 years to wait for the next the year of Bing-shen of the Monkey. I designed 24 of nodes on macaques’ body, and each of nodes are rotatable and adjustable, which permits the macaques to show variable dynamics and expressions. Each of rotatable nodes are representing each of 24 solar terms, climate changes of weather in a year, in Chinese Lunar calendar. As a full circulation of 24 solar terms completed, that means a new year is coming again. I looked forward this design of Bing-shen year of Formosan macaques would remind ourselves of precious time and hopes we can use the time in a meaningful way.

PS.

If the one piece model of monkey tail is not easy to bend, we suggest to print the composed tail model.

Don't printing all models are small then 86% of original model size, and set up 0.15mm layer resolution.
