Schoen I6 surface modeled in Rhino V5 and thickened in MeshLab. Approximate dimensions 65mm cubed, with a 1.4mm wall. Visit this link to find out more:


The surface creates a checkerboard-like pattern on the end faces, resulting in some serious overhangs. In order to print without generating support material, I modeled support faces that can be easily removed with an X-acto blade.

Modeled in rhino using approximate surfacing techniques. Thickened mesh created in Meshlab. The model with the suffix "_support" will print without needing to generate support material in your slicing program. Printed at 0.25mm layer thickness. Your surface is cool looking but it is not the Schoen I6 surface. You appear to have a collection of catenoids whereas the actual I6 has a 'figure eight' construction. Here's a link to a picture which shows it better than the surface evolver page you linked to - http://www.indiana.edu/~minimal/archive/Triply/genus5/I6/web/index.html. If you download evolver and run the I6 file from the page you originally linked to (just load the downloaded file and run the command gogo) it will give you a very good idea of what the I6 is actually like.
