Update April 1st, 2019:
These parts are working perfectly for me since more than 3 years, but some of stl files are not compatible with all slicers. I designed all parts new, more clean and easier to print. Additionally I designed the Spool Guide additionally as two parts positioned flat on printers surface and mounted together with the bearings and screws! Try 'Spool_Guide_Flat2Piece' if you encounter problems with overhangs in the thread. Mounting and Support part are new as well. Alle new parts are compatible. Hope for the next >600 downloads here on the page. Enjoy!
Spool roller systems I have seen need to be adjusted with screws, since every roll is different. This system is easy clickable as the bearing holders are pushed by hand on the common 8mm threaded bars (or 5/16"). This is made by a little bit more than a half inside thread in the pieces.
The complete construction is very space efficient: in height as well in the width as the spools can be placed very narrow to the edges (see pictures).
Since every printer has different tolerances I made three different diameters: Try first 'Spool Guide No2'. If it is to strong on the thread bar, use the No3 with more diameter. If it is not keeping in place, use the No1 with closer tolerances.
Would be very nice if you could give a feedback which number is best fitting for you! And probably some pictures! Thanks!
Making is easy: print as many as of the spool guides you need and two of the 'Mount' pieces to mount at the place you like to install them (filament dry box, a good example from bummster: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:961881, shelf board, etc.)
You don't need nuts or washers for mounting the bearings, all this is built into the part and the screw will be countersunk on one side and clamp on the other.
See instructions for more info. Enjoy!
I made it in PLA (pictures) and ABS.
Print times: 2x Spool Guide = 40', 2x Guide Basis = 60'
SketchUp, the M8 inside thread was a bit tricky to combine with the model.
All parts are printed in PLA with 0.2mm layer height.
- 2x 8mm threaded bars in your length
- 8x M8 nuts with washers to mount the bars
- 4x 625 (5x16x5mm) or 688* (8x16x5mm) bearings for each spool
- 4x M5x16 countersunk screws for each spool
- 4x M5x25 countersunk screws (depends on your situation) to mount all in a box or at the place
*The 625 bearings are very common and fit without any additional part. The 688 bearings I used are also used often, but you can use other bearings with a width of 5mm. If the outer diameter is bigger than 16mm you probably need to underlay the construction at the installing place. The inner diameter of my 688 bearings is attached to the M5 screw by little bearing inlays (see attached files).
The 'Guide Basis' is to mount your construction into a box or somewhere. If your threaded bars are not stable enough with the two mounting parts you can use 'Guide Half Basis' to support them in the middle (see pictures). Keep in mind that the mounting parts have not to be at the ends of the threaded bars, in this way you save space and can place the spools very narrow to the edges of your available space.
