Summary

Folding toy batarang that's been remixed for easy print - made a couple and the kids love it!

Solidworks source is included - go nuts....

[EDIT] if anyone needs source files in a different format just shout out in the comments section - happy to oblige (I use solidworks 'cause it works for me...)

Instructions

This is a remixed thing to allow easy print - one side is flat and it all fits on a normal 200x200mm printer bed - 20% infill works well to give it a bit of weight. Assemble with an M5 x 20mm allen key head bolt through the middle and a recessed nylock nut on the other side.

make sure to print support for batarang 1 or flip it around

this also applies to the "plate" file, which you cant flip. One blade needs support..which I learned the sad way. Is File 1 the one I need to reprint, based on the failed piece from batarang_plate???

Cool, my kid is going to love this! Especially since it is collapsible. Suggestions:
1) Either mention supports are necessary for us noobs (lft wing needs them) or put some in there.
2) Bevel both sides of the batarang not just one to make it look better from either side :). If you are worried about the overhang, just leave leave the bottom side overhang at 45 degrees, almost all printers can handle at least that. The bottom bevel would also make it easier to pry off of build plates.
3) Include a 3D printable M5 x 20mm allen key head bolt and a recessed nylock nut that fits the batarang would be icing on the cake!

Agree with everything you said. I had to re print the one wing flipped it over. The M5x20mm and nut would be awesome too!

Here is a cap I made for this.
It covers the hardware with a Logo for the finishing touches!

Bat Logo cap for Batarang
by zrileys

Printed this it awesome but i think raising the bat logo a bit would help.

Do you have it in SLDPRT?

Could you Make It Work For STL Please

I made one of these, came out great.

i was wondering if you could convert the file into a sketch up format?

Hi Bob
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a common format that both Solidworks and Sketchup use, so you may need to download an extension for sketchup to import the files. Try here for ideas -> https://sites.google.com/site/sketchupsage/resources#exportershttps://sites.google.com/site/...
To make it easier I've uploaded the batarang in both STEP and IGES format as well - good luck!
Dave

this was such a nice easy build. I only had a problem when i tried to screw it together , but have now sorted that issue without adjusting your stl file. It was more to do with resizing the hole by a mm.
Thanks again for such a great model, i will paint it at some stage
