This is an effector for my delta printer (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:923830). It has magnetic ball joints and a 40 mm fan that cools both the heat sink and the printed part! This is an alternative to my other effector design, the older one does not cool the print..

Did you need to change any settings in Marlin from your previous effector? (Used in this delta model: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:923830)

Does this work with the z probe you have for the old effector? thanks

Hm, I do not think so. The reason being I found the Z-probe to be unnecessary.. Calibrate the printer manually and you will not need the sensor!

All built and currently in the process of calibrating it. It would be a great help if I knew a few measurements that you used instead of guessing.

What is the effector offset? I measured 33mm, is that correct?
The smooth rod offset and carriage offset would also be helpful. Measuring with magnetic joints isn't easy!



The effector offset from CAD is 29.2mm (with 2x 3mm thick magnets and 10mm ball, let me know if your magnets differ). The smooth rod offset is more difficult to define (or I do not know how to with magnetic joints and linear guides) so there your measurement will be a good enough starting point. The same goes for the carriage offset.

The first calibration can be a bit tricky, but once you come close it will be much smoother to do it again. Overall the start values for the offsets are not that important according to me, even if you enter the exact CAD measurements, they will have to be changed during calibration.

I guess you have already found something, but send me a PM if you want me to send some links to what I consider being good calibration guides. Hang in there, I have spent a some time calibrating the machine, but now it prints really good.

With this new effector design, what are you using for probing the bed?

I do not actually probe the bed at all. I have calibrated my machine to the point where it is really not needed, it just prints perfect every time. This I think comes down to a rigid machine and a good calibration..

For the ramps+arduino combo I dont think there is a good calibration routine developed yet, so I have given up on auto calibration for the moment..

Hi! Is your model parametric? My magnets are 12 mm x 5 and if I just make a bigger hole its walls are too thin :(

Hello! No, it will not blow the air towards the nozzle, and it will not cool the heat sink. This effector is for a naxial fan!

How deep is the slot for magnets? 6 or 8mm?
If 6, can you upload the same with 8mm? :)

I have now uploaded a version with holes for two 4mm magnets, so that it matches the different versions of the carriages :)

Why it has so low resolution? New file 3 times smaller than original :)

Well, the first one is really unnecessary big. I doubt the lower resolution will be visible, the file is just lighter!
