I'd update the CC license on this design if I were you. There's a fellow who's taking designs from Thingiverse and selling the prints on eBay without permission or attribution.

I combined this and the rounded SCAD files and uploaded them here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:998759

That way people can customize it without needing any kind of a SCAD program.

Printing my customized version now :)

BladeKey - SCAD only
by Grayda

I printed one some time ago for my work keys, and the openscad file scaled the bladekey accordingly. I just did it for another set of keys, using a fresh download of the thing files, and it made it way too wide. Is there a minimum width for the keys?

Just saw your message. It has been awhile since I looked at the code, but I have used it to generate a ton of various sizes. 6mm minimum width should work (that would be 3 keys about)...

What parameters were you using?

Best,
James

Does anyone know the process for creating a custom dxf? I was thinking of adding my cell # in case I lost the keys.

All Rights Reserved license? does that mean we're not even allowed to download this file?

Just printed one and it works fantastic! Thank you, here is a video from SCAD to Assembly, hope it helps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAX3yav2C5Uhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Awesome video Barnacules!!

I love how he blacked out the key pattern like someone would reverse engineer the image to make a duplicate :P Great idea though, I will be printing this tomorrow for my YouTube channel http://youtube.com/barnacules1http://youtube.com/barnacules1. Keep an eye out.

This is awesome! just printed one for myself

How do I add the brand name to the openscad file?

Sorry for not responding sooner, I just saw this.

Make sure you have the dxf file in the directory with the SCAD script.

For some reason when I select "I Made One" from the sidebar the page does not load. I've tried it on my Android phone and my laptop running Chrome.

Anyway "I Made One!"

I think I will remove the two car keys and reprint to fit better. Too bad, I like the idea.

Step 3 make sure zip tie hole are clear. This statement is unclear. I see a whole block where a space for keys should be.

Very strange, that does not appear to be compiling / rendering right ...

Do you have the roundedcorners scad file ( http://thingiverse.com/thing:8812thingiverse.com/thing:8812 ) in the same directory?

Round corners for Openscad - Library

I didn't have that script included. But have since fixed it, thanks. Any reason you can't include the two scad files as one? I'm not scad savy and items like this are intimidating to me.

Glad you got it working and good idea! I will have to see if I can combine them to eliminate the extra step.

trying to make one of these but having a couple of issues. Firstly how to I adjust the size of the hold for my zip-ties head? I have changed the figures in the "ziptie_head_x/y/z" but I am left with half the opening covered with a face on rendering. Also I need to change the size of the hole at the front for my mortice lock key to go into, how can I do that?

Thanks for any help!!

Sorted out the size of the support now, just adjusted the calculations for that. Just the zip tie head

You are changing the right variables. I am not sure why it is rendering as the picture you posted shows. What are the values you are using for ziptie_head_x/y/z? Try making ziptie_head_y bigger than necessary as to ensure that the faces you want to remove are not coplanar with the ziptie_head that is being subtracted from the side.

Unbelievable! I had this very same idea months ago. Nice work man. Thanks for beating me to it.

Lol I guess you realized people could copy your key from a picture... 8-)

Just wait until they "zoom and enhance" on the reflection... :)

B.t.w. this is an awesome concept, execution and great showcase of OpenSCAD doing its magic!

Nice!

(Mashup with bottle opener / signal whistle / other useful non-key-shaped keychain items?)

@relet Not quite a mashup but one could use a bottle opener in the shape of a key with this thing: http://www.amazon.com/STARR-X-HH-4-Bottle-Opener/dp/B000RZQBCEhttp://www.amazon.com/STARR-X-...

Or a custom swiss army knife with keys included...

I LIKE IT! super cool ides!
