This is a work in progress of creating a new opensource PCR machine that is faster and more robust in some ways than commercial machines for around 50-100 times cheaper.
It uses 8mm diameter for the rails, the step motor is attached with m4 screws and all other screws are m3.
It will be using 3 water baths instead of peltier for heating/cooling.
The design will later include heated lid although with the added speed plus allowing the test tubes to be submerged in water the heated lid might not be necessary as condensation might not have time to happen.
It is designed to work with 96 well holders and they can be stacked 3-4 times so it should be able to PCR on a few hundred 0.2ml tubes in 20-30minutes.
All electronics will be using parts available for 3d printing and Arduino so everything can be sourced locally with no single hard to purchase part.
It can be extended to use 2-4 temperature zones.
One extra added benefit is that it will use up to 80% less electricity than peltier baser PCR machines.
