Summary

Create a custom screen to fit your hole. Need to keep varmits out? Tired of bugs? This customizer will let you create screens for your holes!

Here (http://youtu.be/4u0x-dLiKdw) is an example of some soffit vents I printed for my house. I ended up printing a total of 97 of them for the whole house.

Instructions

For the indention setting, picking flush will print the outside face of the screen down on the surface of the printer. Picking recessed will print the inside face of the screen down on the surface of the printer.

The screen and slicer tab settings can be left to their defaults but you'll get better results if you make sure they match the settings in your slicer.

Entering a diameter for a square screen may be weird but because of the way OpenScad works, it lets you treat square screen shapes just like any other shape (and so you get square shapes for free).

Hi, excellent creation, I've been looking for a rectangular mesh for my aquarium - is there any chance you could include a rectangular shape?

Sorry, probably not because of the limitations on the way I created it. But you could try creating an oversized square mesh with a depth of 0, border of 0 and thickness of 0. Then cut off the part that you don't want.

swag dude keep it reel 2k12 ball so hard

Great thing! I was experimenting with it and found out that "horizontal" vanes are offset from "vertical" vanes in customizer... is this true? I was shooting for really "tall" vanes, like 50... This could be both a feature and a handicap, so you could maybe leave it as an option to have this offset or not. Great job anyways :)

That sounded like a good idea and I actually tried a version that had them overlap but I found that the screen ended up being very weak. When the printer doesn't have to change direction for each square of the screen grid, it comes out a lot stronger.

Hi, I love this thing. Can you change the scad file so we can make rectangular things out of it?

Congrats on featured! Had a feeling a customizable mesh vent cover was a good idea ;-).

Thanks. Yes it was.

You could turn them over and make custom sieves, too.

Good idea. You could make a stack of them with progressively finer mesh to filter things out.

PERFECT timing, just moved into a house that has a myserious cover-less hole over what I think might be a small furnace vent. Anyway, long story short, the cat tries to climb into this thing every chance he gets and we doubt he'd get back out again. Looking forward to giving this a try, thanks for your work!

Great! Yea, found that some of the soffit vents on my house were rusting through with several bird nests in them. And the screens were installed from the inside. I needed screens I could put in from the outside.
