Summary

An updated fan shroud for my mk5 Solidoodle extruder.

Suits a 40mm fan and makes use of the mk5's new accessory mounting system.

Instructions

Print parts at high infill for strength. No support needed. The fan shroud (ironically) prints a lot better with a fan. Therefore, you may like to print one, fit it and use it to print another, better quality shroud.

M3 x 10mm bolts to attach the accessory mount to the shroud.

Use a few layers of Kapton tape to protect the inside of the shroud from the heat of the extruder.

40mm fan should slip straight in.

Dimensions in mm.

How do you actually wire a fan to the solidoodle?

Something that connects the "internal middle" to the rest of the model during the first few tens of layers would be great. I had to superglue the middle piece mid-print because it kept unsticking from the heated bed (printing with ABS). If it could be attached to the main model via some thin bridges or something, that would make it easier to print.

Does this fit the E3D hot end? Mines coming soon and I'm wondering if I should print this :-) thanks :-)

did it ever fit?

Not designed to fit the E3D hot end. I have another design on here for that...

This doesn't work with the J-head, it also bumps into the stock carriage for the solidoodle (using solidoodle 2 for specifics). Kapton tape also doesn't stick to my abs plastic, did you print it in PLA?

I have a hard time getting mine to stick as well :(

I found the back of the duct hits the bottom of my extruder carriage meaning it cannot sit flat/horizontal, I need to shave maybe 2-3mm off the top of the back (thin) end.

Is this for the stock hot end? Will a J-head stick out too much?

In this thread, http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:111213http://www.thingiverse.com/thi..., he says it should work with the j-head.

any chance of one with a PEEK cooling vent??

Should be fairly simple if you open it in a program that has stl import abilities. Just make a cut right where the two dots are. The fan already points right at it.
