I was amazed when I pulled it off my build plate and it just worked ! I use them for the door on my enclosure.

It works very well, very thoughtful design.

I printed this, it looks beautiful, but it doesn't work, I forced it in a hydraulic press and the tabs broke. I have my extruder calibrated. I printed at 0.2mm layer height with 3 perimeters and 50% infill.
I printed another at 95% extrusion multiplier and it worked. I'm not sure why as my printer already errs closer to under extrusion than it does to over extrusion.

There is no pin. The middle part in a conventional hinge with a pin is called the barrel. These actually have a double barrel, which is why they are reversible. The barrels have conical pockets rather than a hole going all the way through. The outer "leafs" have conical projections that go into the pockets of the barrel, but they don't actually touch. There is something like a .4 mm space in between. And since the conical parts in the barrels and leafs have angles of 45 degrees, they can be printed assembled without supports.

Does that make any sense?

I can't tell from the pictures - what does it use as a hinge pin?

This seems like a much better solution than a full, expensive acrylic box. Where would one find this kind of foam?

These are great! Why didn't I think of that? I was thinking they'd be used as part of a larger design, but you've made them useful by themselves. What are they connected to in your second picture?
