To those who have emailed me about the lack of files.. I'm updating the files please be patient no one is paying me to do this so progress is slow. My printer is also under repair and it will take some time to test my mods. The reason for the mods are to corrects some problems and to back out changes made for the museum challenge as the entry was unsuccessful.
This toy takes advantage of the accuracy with which a 3D printer creates parts to produce a very precise aerodynamic and balanced flying toy that only works well due to the precision of a 3D printer. I'm designing different Prop Rockets for it say tuned :-) bigger faster further!
You will need
- 4, 2mm dia self tapping screws 10-12mm in length should work. or you can glue it together
- a 4cm rubber band
- Some fishing line .7-1.2mm dia ~ 0.8m length
- If you want to avoid wearing out the plastic in the guide hole get a small metal eyelet. I used a short length of brass tube 3mm dia and glued it in place with super glue.
Clean off raft (best if printed directly on bed).
Look at pictures and assemble as shown. Glue halfâ€™s of shaft together. I used a round file to smooth the running surface in launcher and a small piece of sand paper to smooth the shaft (I print in ABS so this works well) then a little grease in the bearing. Drill out the screw holes if you need to so you don't crack the print. Position shaft in handle and attach the retaining cover.
Note ensure to pre-wind the rubber band and make sure you wind it the right way "anticlockwise" so the pull cord retracts completely. Thread line through spool either hole and tie. Thread other end through hole in handle then thread it through pull nob and tie a few nots to hold it on. If you pre-wind the rubber band, the line should retract.
Now go and playâ€¦ be careful it can easily fly sideways and over a house or two!
Note V2 launcher file. I have updated it with a stronger pull knob and fixed the hook :-)
