Monogrammed iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5S, and 6 Case by TheNewHobbyist Aug 12, 2013

Update: v1.5
ADDED iPhone 6 case

This iPhone case generator was co-designed by myself (TheNewHobbyist) and visual artist/designer Silvia Heisel.

For the best fit and finish I recommend printing this case with PLA and Makerware's medium setting.

Print one to personalize your iPhone with your initials (or any other three letter combination). Don't have a printer (or just want to have us print it for you)? These cases are also available for purchase at http://sylviaheisel.com.

Change Log:

Update v1.1:
UPDATED dimensions of iPhone 5 case for a better fit
UPDATED to include v1.1 of Monospaced Stencil Font for OpenSCAD

Update v1.2
FIXED a typo in v1.1 that caused monograms not to render.

Update v1.3
UPDATED to include v1.3 of Monospaced Stencil Font for OpenSCAD

Update v1.4 UPDATED to include v1.4 of Monospaced Stencil Font for OpenSCAD this adds the following characters to the font: 1234567890 (:^-+)<*%.,>[;|!#]

Update: v1.5 ADDED iPhone 6 case.

  1. Download all files attached to this thing.
  2. Open Monogram_iPhone_Case_TNH.scad
  3. Personalize with your own initials, case thickness, and iPhone model.
  4. Print in PLA, and enjoy!

Do you have this for he 6+ phone?

I don't at the moment. But if you have a link to a plain case on Thingiverse that you've printed and works well I'd be happy to add it to the Customizer.

I am confused. how do I open Monogram_iPhoneCase in "openscad"?

Please help me!, i can open Monogram_iPhone_Case_TNH.scad , i download the program "openscad" but i can open, i did it in my mac, (sorry for my english) i dont know write very well.

I made an alteration to the scad file. If you click "Download All Files" and unzip all the files into one folder it should work for you.

OH!! Thank you, simply amazing!!!
This is one of the best models I've ever printed!!!

I have only some suggestions for the next update:

  • it would be really amazing having a cover not with initials, but with a sentence, maybe on 2 lines.
  • the iPhone 5C cover is maybe not enough big (or maybe is my printer that cannot print it properly).

Thank you again!!!

could anybody customise a 4s case to say 'CH7' for me as I cannot seem to make these files work. or how do I use scad files?!?! please get back to me as quick as you can! thank you!

Unzip all files into a directory, say "iphone_case". There should be a subdirectory "Write" inside and the file Write.scad in this subdirectory. Use OpenSCAD to open Mono_iPhine_Case_Write.scad and read the instruction for how to select the iphone model and initials. Press F6 to render. Export to your desired file format.

for anybody that is having the same troubles i was, download all files as a folder. then open the openscad file, and change the text right below font height where it says: use write/Write.scad; change that to: use write.scad; then make sure your downloaded file says write.scad (if it doesn't just change the name) and then click on design: compile and render (GCAL)
Hope that helps!

could you add the iphone 5c case to the design?
i made an openscad file for it

Iphone 5c Case OpenScad

I put the initials in but they don't show.. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure you download all included files. Including Write.scad and the dxf font file. Then you should be all set.

Thanks, I think it wasnt showing up because I didnt extract the folder, only the Monogram_iPhone_Case folder.

Hey, so I am new to openscad and I uploaded all the files, excluding the stl files, to the program and went through the customization. Is the object suppose to be just the model of the three initial or should the STL file include the case itself? Do I need to download the blank iphone case STL file and boolean cut the initials into the model separately??

I have a question about the measurements of the iPhone 5, I printed out the phone case but when I tried to insert my phone in the height of the case was too small for me to be able to put it in and it cracked the part where it holds the phone down...?

hey, it sounds like there might have been an issue with your build....we've printed a lot of these cases and the file definitely fits when the print is good....we've had fit issues when the build plate isn't perfectly level or something else is at all off.

hi!! first! tell you that the desings are greate!! but can you help me, i already download the open scan software and open the monogram file, y enter my initials and the version of the phone but i'm not able to see the printable stl. can you hel me..?

You need to download all of the files (except the STL files) When I downloaded the Write.scad it renamed to uploads-dd-ae something or other, I renamed it to Write.scad

I opened this in text edit. What Do I do after I fill things out in monogram_ ... ?

You'll need to download OpenSCAD and open the .scad file in that program to generate a printable file.

Hi, Ur designs look great. Is there any chance that u can upload 3d model for iphone 4 in .stp format. Thanx in advance.

v1 worked great for my iphone 4S. Thanks! I just tried v1.1 but compiling and rendering appears result in a blank case model.

You're right! I accidentally uploaded the wrong copy of the file. If you download v1.2 you should be all set!

Downloaded v1.2. Looks like there's a typo where it says "use <write write.scad="">;". It should be "use <write.scad>;". Fixed that and I was good to go. Thanks!</write.scad></write>

You're right, looks like I missed that one last night. The current v1.2 has been revised. Thanks for the heads up!
