the monoprice maker select is not a prusa i3, it is a wanhao duplictor i3. great file though

Hi
Good idea to improve on someone's design, but you need to do it right.
Take a look at the bottom of your stl file and you know what I mean. You need to fix this so the bottom prints correctly.

Meltink glow in the dark pla at 200, 1.5mm layer height, 35%infill, no whistling noise.

Huh mine doesn't whistle at all.

your clearly doing it wrong, what material have you used to print it?

Printed in 20% infill .2mm PLA on a Makergear M2. Wasn't anywhere near as loud as the original. Feels like I'm doing something wrong...

I did not have any luck with this whistle. I printed at 20% infill, 0.2 layer height and ABS. I blew whistle and only air come out of the side holes, no loud "whistle". What went wrong?

Hi all. I cannot completely remove the fill-in support so the whistle doesn't work. Could you tell me how to remove all the useless PLA?

Thanks.

There are some spaces that aren't directly accessible on a straight line, so I don't think you'll be able to remove the support. You can print this model with no support though!

Thanks. To print it without supports, what's the best orientation? Flat?

Print it in the orientation that the STL comes in, with the mouth knob & logo facing up.

Do they print without supports??

No! No supports needed. Just make dure you have a good cooling fan

Very interesting. Glad your experimenting. I agree I wanted to make the original easyer to blow but I ran out of time and I don't have a printer of my own yet. I would love to see a video or a decibel meter reading if you get a chance. I totally love the portability too.

Hey man, the original works great! Thanks for making it. I printed many for my family and friends.
I don't have access to a professional dbmeter. I downloaded "decibel 10th" from the Apple Store but it is not sensitive past 100db. Do you know of a good cheap (preferably free since I rarely ever use it) app that works well in iOS? How far away were you from the meter when you tested it?

Regardless, I got around 103db with the app. I will print another one of your version and do a comparison later this weekend and post the video.

Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

The db meter I bought is fairly cheep. Here's the link. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X3MD6EY?keywords=db%20meter&qid=1454704544&ref_=sr_1_2&sr=8-2

Honestly I trust the phone app. As far as distance I think I was about arms length but I didn't measure. I think technically it should be a meter away but I don't think it's critical for the type of measurement t we are doing. I was just curious. Thanks for doing all that.

Also if you want, if you send me the dimensions that you wanted I could modify my original cad file to your specs. I'll send it back to you so you can post it without worrying about issues caused by the mesh. Let me know.

I just posted the video of the comparison between the two whistles. I used the phone app, hope that works for you.

Thanks for the file offer, but to me this is more about learning how to mess with the software and printer than anything else. Thanks to the new remix of mine I found out about Blender and was able to fix the file size. Also now I get to mess with Blender.

Why is the file 90MB?

I modified the file with MeshMixer. All the files I export from that software seem to be unusually large. I think it's making too many triangles, but I don't know how to reduce the number without messing up the model.
I'll go in and change it if you have any tips. I'm very new at this.

I just started playing with MeshMixer myself. It looks like some of these tips might help: https://www.3dhubs.com/talk/thread/reducing-polygon-count-tips-and-tricks

I tried the "reduce" function, but it didn't do much, so I went in and manually remeshed as many areas of the model as I could. I got it down to around 60MB. It's not great, but it is something...

I'll keep my eyes out for better ways to fix this and upload the updates.
