"Click below for a higher quality model by killi: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:246000" -> brings a 404!! Where's the "higher quality model"?

My little brother is a TOTAL Star Wars nut, so I'm gonna make him one for his birthday. Thanks!

This does not work with Slic3r. It crashes as soon as I want to load the file.

its perfectly legal for him to sell it, if you go to thing info and then license there is no "non-commercial" license on it, to change that all you have to do is go to edit, and then license and select the one saying "non-commercial". Hope this can help you!

I'm actually looking for Star Wars models to add to my store right now, but I respect the rights of the creator. You've still got this marked as something that can be resold so long as credit is given and the person has access to the model for free...are you actually ok with prints of it being sold? Or has the licensing on thingiverse just not been updated?

Here's an example of a listing I have with someone elses model: https://www.etsy.com/listing/228070367/3d-han-solo-in-carbonite-iphone-6-case You would get credit and we would be linking back to Thingiverse just like we did with that one...and every other print in the shop, including our own designs. We're basically selling the service of printing rather than the models themselves since 3d printers aren't very common yet.

Thanks for checking in! That's no worries, feel free to use them as you wish. All the best with your Etsy store! :D

Awesome! Thank you!

you item is being sold for profit with no credit given to you

This guy needs to be stopped NOTHING in his shop is his, half of it is non commercially liscenced and i've only seen one item that he actually gives credit for

Thanks for letting me know about this. Not sure if it's worth reporting him to etsy on copyright infringement? Have you both looked into it? I think it's great people are using my models, but credit is always nice.

This guy did the same to one of my items, even using my own photo. I tried reasoning with him but he even went so far as to claim it was his own design: "I don't see the point in giving you credit when it's my design"

digitydogs - in reply to BadgerForce

he doesn't seem to think the creative commons licensing rules and copyright law apply to him. Once he realized i was informing all the authors of the work he has stolen he sent me this message

Now I want to impart some knowledge on you so we can put this to bed as I'm doing the same with each designer. You are unable to copyright simple geometric designs in the US. Also say you made some really cool design and posted it saying you can only download this if you agree not to sell it. Anyone could download it, print it, then measure it, and use it as 'inspiration' for their design that looks identical to your original design...and it wouldn't in the least be copyright infringement.

I don't think he is going to stop until someone sues him, and i also think if it is possible we need to report him to thingiverse and get his email and ip banned from the site. He is another of those people that are destroying both our 3D printing community and the spirit behind it, as well as the Etsy shop brand, as this doesn't qualify as handmade. If those two facts arent bad enough he is selling prints that are low quality making the authors work look cheap and poorly designed :(

This is is user profile here. He was dumb enough to message me from it so now we have a way to let thingiverse get his ip and details and ban his thieving ass!

What's the worst thing of all is most of the work he could have used with a simple link back to the original, and in many instances if you contact someone with a non commercial license they will allow you to sell it if you simply ask!

Made one in black ABS, scaffold came off nicely, lots of detail, impressed. Thanks sjpiper !! May for force be with you !

I remixed this thing because of Slic3r problems and bad triangles - here is a high quality version: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2004710

Hi the link dont work for high quality version

I've deleted my version because Makerbot itself published my model over
their social media channels. After a few days they deleted all of their postings because the Makerbot legal department didn't want to publish Star Wars stuff...so I've deleted my model too - I'm sorry!

Oh darn!

Any chance you can upload a high poly count version of this? I want to print it at 20 micron and see how good it can turn out.

please see my comment above :-)

I made one which was my second attempt at printing something. The front section distorted up off the platform during the build, and his mouth is distorted. I was surprised the object remained in place during the build as only a third of it was in contact with the platform by the end. Not perfect and I need to figure out how to stop the distortion.

ABS Plastic tends to distort much easier than PLA if you haven't got a heated platform - What are you working with? Otherwise, setting the print up with a raft can help avoid warping.

The current version doesn't work with slic3r (during repairs, it complains about a... mobius facet ??), nor with netfabb cloud (calculation failed)... That's too bad, the part really looked cool...

I fixed it and mixed it with a high quality version - please see my comment above :-)

I made one on the 29th of october, just uploaded a photo of it.

I do think it's something wrong with the model. This was probably my 4th item to be printed since I built my printer and I wasn't all that familiar with the software. It showed a top view which kind of looks correct, but if I was to open the model in a different software I would have noticed that it was only the bottom piece. I'm not sure if I screwed it up in slicing it, but I don't see how I could have since everything else I've printed worked perfectly.

After 2.5 hours, it printed the bottom 1.5" and nothing else. Wasted a ton of filament! It seemed to slice just fine, but Pronterface just showed a top view, which looked correct, but apparently it wasn't. Very upsetting to waste this much abs.

I always get better results when I print a small version of the print first and then size it up after. Test printing like that has saved me a ton of filament.

That really sucks! I haven't tried printing this model yet, but I thought it would be alright. Do you think it's something wrong with the model itself?

This is prety cool.

This wont slice properly in Slic3r. Can u make some fixes, I really wanna print this.

That's not good! I'll see what I can do over the next few days.

This is sweet, but why is the hole not centered??

Dammit, I thought it was centered. I used an aligning tool and everything. Sorry about that!
