Summary

There's lots of funnels available to print and a few with complex vent systems. However, this handy little funnel has a simple solution to the air venting issue.

The design features ridges that stop the funnel sealing against the neck of the container liquid is being poured into. This ensures air can always vent as liquid is being poured in without the need to also hold the funnel as you are pouring. This makes transferring liquids easy and minimizes the chance of the funnel overflowing.

At standard scale the 'Vented Funnel' is a small and practical solution for most applications requiring a funnel to transfer liquids in the kitchen, bathroom and garage / workshop.

This is an easy print with no support required. It can be scaled up or down if required.

Notes:

Easy print. Raft recommended to ensure good adhesion to the build plate as the walls are relatively thin meaning the contact surface is greatly increased with Raft applied.

Eyeball scaled it using Cura to 65% just to get it faster. Works great.

what material is food safe to print with?

You will need to do your own research on food safe filament as not all manufacturers have standards they adhere to. HoweverI've never had any concerns with the MakerBot PLA I use as they have quality controls in place with MSDS reports available.

Having said that PLA is produced from plant based resins and it's obviously hot enough to kill any bugs when extruded. I have to think the bigger risk using this for food is keeping it clean as particals could get into fine spaces / ridges in between layers. Look at a print with a magnifying glass and you will better appreciate this point.

No customizable?

Not at this stage.... but mainly because simple uniform scaling in your slicing app should achieve a similar result

printed it with pla with shell thickness of 2mm and 50 infill.

Sorry to hear the result isn't quite what you expected... lots of others have printed it with very positive feedback. The fact is not all machines print the same... this can be caused by the slicing app, the machine itself and the filament.

If there was an easy answer I would happily provide it but the range of variables makes it a challenge. Slicing profiles make a big difference as they will affect the overlap between layers / shells. The mechanical accuracy of the machines obviously also contributes to this and low cost / quality filament can be the sole cause.

With regards to filament, I've measured up some that goes from 1.6mm to 1.9mm within a 30mm length of filament. Imagine how that affects making a print solid.... some areas have less fill than required and other areas too much. This will cause gaps in your prints... look at all your prints under a magnifying glass.

Having said all of this, fused filament 3D printing is prone to the issue raised because these prints are essentially very fine strings of plastics that stick together because of the heat present when they are laid down. Making them perfectly blend is a real challenge. I use modified print profiles to get as close to the result I'm after as possible but, for me, every {LA 3D print will leak to some extent.

As a suggestion try 3 or 4 shells that increases the wall thickness which should help. You can also try increasing your print temperature to help layers blend together better...which will improve how water tight it is.

You should be able to scale this up and down quite readily. It's made to suit a wide array of containers thanks to the wide top compared to the narrow base / outlet. I design in Rhino so you would need to have Rhino for the original files to be of any use.

Pleased you like the design... at standard scale the walls are 1.5mm thick so should be plenty strong enough provided you use enough shells and infill.
