Improved mount for the filament guide tube on the Replicator 2. Simply click it onto the original mount, no extra tools needed.

The original mount for the guide tube is very close to the casing and has several issues;

  • The tube sometimes comes loose
  • It's hard to quickly change filament, for example mid-print, because of the small tube opening
  • Filament tends to jump off from full spools, wrapping around the spool axle
  • Filament sometimes tangles itself, because the straw pulls it towards the sides

Inspired on some other existing things, combining all their benefits into one, I am trying to solve all these problems at once.

There are 2 slots for guide tubes, in case you use dual extrusion. Each slot has it's own 2 openings on the bottom where filament can be fed from either spool.
As these openings are shaped like funnels, it's easier to insert filament. And because these openings are positioned over 30mm backwards, they are easier to reach, while they spool the filament more from the center instead of pulling to the side.

Update September 26, 2013

  • Changed the bridge between both legs to be arced, and reduce overhang problems
  • Greatly improved grip on the filament guide tube.
  • Redid the tubes to have a slightly larger inner diameter and smoother inner surface

Great looking print, but when I try to use it, the filament seems to ride against the plastic enough that it creates tension that wasn't there without this piece. Not sure what's going on.

I recognize that when using with a full 1KG spool, although it hasn't given me any actual problems. Do you actually notice a (negative) difference?
Still have plans for a modification to resolve this, but haven't had the time yet.

This a must for any MB2 owners.

just printed, shocked at how snug it all fits, as others have said what an improvement and really should be a suggested upgrade for rep2 & 2x owners. Well done!

A great addition, Going to Make another one for my Office Makerbot Replicator 2. Exactly what I was looking for, the tube kept coming out of the anchers, this is much better. Thank you very much :)

FYI: I am working on an improved version with a wider funnel for a better angle of entrance with full spools.

Awesome. This should be standard equipment. Listening, MakerBot?

It was made to fit so well that I first thought it was incorrect. However, I have not had any issues with the print, and truly am surprised that it is not part of MBs original equipment. My original print works so well that I have not printed an updated version.

One word: OUTSTANDING!!!!
Thank you sir!

This design is awesome! I just printed it out for our work replicator 2. It fits perfectly.

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback

Seemed to print easy! Right after printing I had it installed and using! I did notice that the tube fits a little too tight on my print but I see you did that on purpose so all is good. MakerBot should just include this in their package because it is a million times better than what they had from factory.

I cant get it on! The metal is to tick. Would love to have the part drawing file for an fast and easy edit

I am sorry to hear that.
Make sure you print on a low layer hight, preferably below 0,15mm. The tolerances are tight.
Then it should snap right on. You do need to force it on a little bit, but this is intended. Oterwise is would fall right off.

I have added my SketchUp design file in case the above does not help.

Thanks :) It made me happy!

Super improvement for your replicator 2 - thank you !!

Very clever approach!
