this is cool... i am wondering about how you implement it. ..... is it a massive union of hexahedrons?

If you so happen to be browsing the code in GitHub, take a look at the shape_metaball.lua file. In particular, the beamsearch() function is the little bit of novelty that makes this routine fairly fast for simple networks of balls.

So, no unions of anything. Just good ol' fashioned isosurface t
o mesh calculation.
