A 6_2 knot designed by Candace Bethea and edited by Dave Pfaff and myself from my Math 341 Introduction to Topology class in Fall 2014.

Form 1

You may need to rescale this object by a factor of 10 in Makerware since it is sized in cm not mm. You may also need to move the knot onto the platform, I think it is just above it. The knot is about 7cm x 7cm x7cm in size. This knot was first printed on a Project 260 3D Systems printer. Later, I printed it on the FormLabs 1+ printer in clear resin (02).

How I Designed This

The 6_2 knot was exported from SeifertView, then opened it in Cinema4D. The surface of the knot needed fixing due to overlapping polygons. This was fixed by deleting overlapping polygons, then filling in the gaps using the Stitch and Sew tool in Edge Mode.

This is probably impossible to actually print- but it's still pretty cool. Very good work. How long did this take to make?

It took 1.5 hours on the FormLabs 1+ liquid resin printer. I haven't tried to print it on a standard extrusion style (like MakerBot) printer.

That explains a lot. >_<

But it is really cool, still. ^_^
