This isn't a horrible idea, but have you ever considered Kydex for the same purpose?

I've seen it before, but I have a 3D printer and spools and spools of PLA which does a really good job.

Why not print it to the correct shape?

Assuming you aren't talking about printing a replacement pod, which I think may be a better option, why would you want to? You will get a much better custom fit by creating it this way, the print quality will be much better, it will be stronger and it prints quicker. If you've never tried warming up PLA, give it a shot, I think you'll like it.
