Hi.
I'm thinking on printing this for clay extrusion.
I've used professional cavity pump so far, and want to focus on the open-source design.

Have you managed to extrude material without pulsastions?

The pump mechanism is non-pulsed by design, so that's not a problem. The problem with a printed pump is that it doesn't seal well enough to be able to pull the pumped material in, so it needs some sort of a transfer pump to feed it (unless the material can flow under it's own weight)

As noted in emmett's original, one can probably drive it with a planetary gearbox with the drven pump part connected to the planet. The planet should have halve the teeth of the ring (and no sun gear).

That would be one option, but then you would have to put the gearbox either inside the suction side of the pump, which could be problematic, or outside, and then have to figure out sealing for a shaft that not just rotates but also orbits around.

Right now I'm thinking of a flexible shaft to drive the rotor, which is what the commercial designs seem to use. The rolling circle of the rotor can be made small enough so that the shaft doesn't need flex too much. I'm prototyping with a version with 5mm rotor radius and 3mm rolling circle radius
right now and it doesn't look too small.
