Edit September 2016: Version 2 of this ready, see http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1728791

Make pictures like on Google Streetview !

After seeing http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1459595 and loving the design I thought of doing something more automaticly. I had some ESP8266 Witty boards laying around (http://nl.aliexpress.com/item/ESP8266-serial-WIFI-Witty-cloud-Development-Board-ESP-12F-module-MINI-nodemcu/32566502491.html) I wanted the GoPro to be automaticly making the pictures, so I want to use the WiFi of it together with two motors, one 9G servo for tilting and one 28BYJ-48 stepper motor with driver board.

The whole thing works on a USB powerbank and when starting the red LED lits up. Be sure to have your GoPro WiFi on and when the Witty can connect to it, it sets the GoPro mode to photo and the LED turns green. Pressing the button on the Witty starts the capture process (LED gets red) and making 6 pictures over 360 degree and then tilting the camera up for the last picture. When it is done it returns the platform to the start position so that the wires don't get twisted.

I use the QS-29 mount for my tripod, use the hole under the stepper to connect them together.

Use some M3x8 mm screws for the stepper driver PCB and to secure the stepper motor.

Update may 6 2016: added Arduino program PixelPano.zip to the project. Beware: I am not a professional programmer and when stuff blows up don't start blaming me !

Nice work, congrats. People must feel grateful to you about this project.

How do u feel if u find out this design of urs being sold as a commercial product to end-users ?

Let me know... Regards.

best project since now on thingiverse.
Just started to assemble it.
Gopro picture making works.. kind-of amazing wifi commands for making the pics.
The servo works, makes pan/tile at the beginning and end of 7 pictures series.

the stepper is yet not moving.. have to debug this causes :(

My PanCam is finished :)

Thanks a lot pixelmagic for sharing this!

Very nice ! Also good stitching of the pictures.

For anyone willing to build this thing, I am working on a second, improved version.

  • Smaller stepper driver board
  • Other smaller WiFi board (WeMos)
  • WS2812 RGB LED for status
  • Rounded and more stable U-shape
  • Improved GoPro holder
  • Overall smaller design
  • Hopefully top en bottom part removable for transportation
  • Improved software

I am currently drawing up the parts but not all parts have arrived yet, so please be patient. Hoping to get this thing working in the upcoming few weeks.

got it all together today and have made 3 panoramas already in one day. this thing works great. Thank you for all the help and sharing with all of us.

Good to hear that it works for you.

And....show the pictures or it did not happen ;)

Nice result !!

Thank you very much. Spent most of today running around getting images. This is almost to easy. Thank you again for sharing

Looks awesome, I have been looking for one of this forever and finally have a 3d printer!

A question though, what software did you use to put the pictures together?

Thank you.

I used the demo version of PTGui, looking for some nice and good working Open Source software to do the same thing. Any tips are more then welcome.

Super!!!. Nur die vertikale Drehung ist nicht um den Brennpunkt der Linse. Das Programm ist klasse.

Thanks, you inspired me to make this. I know the distance of the upright picture is not 100%, but I think it will work. Main reason for this design is that is is as small als possible, I want to take it with me whenever I like.

Dunno why you write in German :)

Tolles Projekt!
Hab die Teile sofort ausgedruckt, und alles nötige bei AliExpress bestellt.
Könntest du noch einen Anschlussplan zur Verfügung stellen ?
Grüße

Look into the code, there are the pins to connect it all.

ok i have printed the parts ordered things. may i ask what the coding is for this? i really like this by the way hope to get it working.
Thanks

Added the code to the project (PixelPano.zip). Look into the code to see on what pins you need to connect the servo and stepper. The onboard button and LED is used in the code.

got all the parts seams to be working but i cant figure out how to get the ESP8266 serial WIFI Witty cloud Development Board to connect to my Gopro 4.
Any ideas that i am not thinking of?
Thanks again for the help and the way cool design

I got the hero3, got it to work with the help of https://github.com/KonradIT/goprowifihack

Best way is to connect a laptop or other device to the gopro wifi and find out the correct url to take a picture. When you got that then copy nthat url to the different positions in the arduino code.

The hero3 needed the password parameter, other models might not. Also find the photo mode url on the github.

Good luck and can't wait to see the first images :)

thank you very much..as soon as i get it all together i will post a make of it. just have to wait for the parts to ship.
