Thanks- Did a new design that expands on your anti wobble to add tabs for screws into smooth rod bearing, also added tab to screw the gap adjustment screw into on the left side to stabilize that mess . Lost the wobble feature but hoping the better 8M nut fit will be better, the rods are straight so just getting rid of the terrible slop in the Z Axis Nut should help. Going to use the ball bearing design on the upper Z Axis.
All remands to be seen.

What did you find for the nut to fit the Geeetech threaded rod. I believed it was M8 1mm pitch but it isn't.

Its a standard M8 with 1,25mm pitch.

Nice thing, thanks for sharing. Unfortunately didn't improved my situation. Well every printer is different, i think. ;)

This should definitely improve the z wobble, maybe your rods are bent to much or there is elsewhere a problem?

I printed the thing but after working well for one entire print the second time I tried I started having problems in the z movement. For small z the motors cannot lift the x axis... but after some point it is ok they move ok.... the problem is z's close to the z end stop... any ideas?

  1. I can follow you until "the problem is z's close to the z end stop...". I'm sorry, I don't understand that. Maybe you can describe it better or make a picture?
  2. On my printer it is working flawless since xy prints.
  3. You need to sand the face a little bit where the linear axis is touching the thing to make sure that there is not to much play, but also that it could not get stuck when moveing it a bit around and twisting it a bit.
  4. Maybe the v-ref for your z-axis is set too low and you need to raise that up a little bit.
  5. Maybe your threaded rod is bent so much, that it stucks somewhere else and the thing cannot compensate it.

let me rewrite it: "the problem is with z values that are low, i.e. the x axis is close to the end stop of the z axis"
I do see a lot of

  1. I would need to upload a video... pictures are not so informative in this case...
  2. I sanded it and the first print was ok...
  3. I tried adjusting this or adjusting the connectors from the stepper motor to the threaded rod.... but still the problem is there...
  4. I do see some bending... but well before it would work.... with the Wobble but it wouldnt stuck....

Ok, I understand now.
The only idea I have, is that the threaded rod is bend or thigthen not strait so that it has problems when it is very near to the coupler.
Maybe you could really do a video.

PS: But you understand how the anti wobble thing is working? Do you have an idea where the problem could come from?

Let me tell you my idea....
Since the part before was connected to the X axis, the oscillations of the threaded rod would affect the x position of the extruder. Now with this part you designed we still can move up/down in the Z but the oscillations of the rod are not transmitted to the X axis so the extruder will be more stable....
Now my problem is at some point the Z motors could not push up the X mechanism... after a certain Z, they would push the X mechanism without problems....
So right now I just took the rods and inverted them (the up ends of the rods are now attached to the motors)
So far I have moved it a bit and seems to work fine... lets hope it remains that way.... It seems that there is was a bit of damage in the threading...
I still see a lot of oscillation... that well it is not transmitted to the X axis mechanism... but looks strange to me...
Is there a particular way you attach the threaded rods to the motors to avoid oscillations due to a bad position? or you just tie the screws and you pay no particular attention?

Ok, fine.
I first mount the coupler to the motor, and try to tighten it as straigth as possible. Then i let the motor rotate to see if it is really straigth.
Then i put in the threaded rod until it hits the motor axis. And pull it back out ~2mm. So that the threaded rod is not hitting the motor axis inside the coupling.
Then, I'm slowly rotating the threaded rod by hand during tighten the bolts on the coupler for the threaded rod.
I get quite good results with that method.

I managed to align it better now... I followed your advice and also used this http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1496379 (first part, the one with an L shape) to mount the coupler to the motor while holding it vertically and stable.
