Lulzbot Taz 5 Light Kit
Update: I added the complete BOM below with links to parts on Amazon.
My main goal was to create a light kit that looked factory installed and provided ample light for the print bed. Given the frame of the Taz 5 is black Makerbeam and there just happens to be a laser etched Taz logo plate front and center - this was the my perfect spot to nestle a light kit onto the printer. I designed the light kit to printed as one part that mounted on the Makerbeam frame directly behind the Taz logo plate.
The light kit uses an automotive 12v LED panel from a car dome's light, a rocker switch, a power inlet, and a 12v DC wall wart for power. It is simple, very bright, and runs cool even being powered on for long prints.
The part is designed to be printed as one piece but I uploaded two files here - one with a small anti-warping fence and one without the anit-warping fence. Because my Taz 5 sits directly under an air vent the anti-warping fence provides the best finished Light Kit for my printer. I have printed these all various settings without much effect on the part. The 3D model maybe a little messy (just made quickly on TinkerCAD), however it prints just fine.

Wire the Light Kit up
I didn't upload detailed build instructions or wiring diagrams, because it is so simple. If anyone needs a diagram or step by step instructions, then just let me know.
The high level overview is the rocker switch pops into the hole on top of the light kit (friction fit). The DC power inlet goes into the hole on the rear side of the light kit and secures with the nut from the inside of the light kit. The LED light sticks to the tray with its own adhesive backing. The LED light wires feed through the opening next to the power inlet (the same opening you used to install the nut on the power inlet with).
The power inlet, LED and switch are all then wired together. However, if anyone needs some guidance here, then just let me know. The installation instructions are also below if you have printed the Light Kit, wired it up and are ready to install on your Lulzbot Taz 5.
The Light Kit is dead simple to install after it is wired up. Just remove the logo plate and place on the front of the Light Kit and bolt it back on with longer screws.
Light Kit installation:
1). Unscrew the logo plate from the frame.
2). Place the light kit in front of the tee nuts in the makerbeam and replace the logo plate (as the front of the light kit) using 60mm M5 bolts. Black M5 bolts look nicer in my opinion.
3). Run the power supply cord around the makerbeam frame as needed to reach your power outlet and secure with zip ties.
