what is the outer diameter of the spool holder? is this the same size as the stock spool holder? i want to know because i have printed a different design that uses 28x22x8 bearings only to find out my spools won't fit because the holder is larger .:(

This model has some issues. First, I think it was designed to house a bearing in the "cone" section and the free end of the spool shaft. This setup does not work.

If a bearing is placed at each end of the spool shaft, the shaft rotates correctly- this can be done, but the threaded rod is not well supported in the "cone" without a bearing ( it will sag). I added a third bearing to work as a support (this bearing doesn't spin).

Next, the bearing retainers are not centered on the axis of the rod. If a bearing is inserted, it doesn't actually sit in the middle of the shaft due to a misalignment in the model. To make this system still work, I inserted spacers behind each bearing and did not use the bearing retainers in the model at all.

Lastly, the spinning portion of the model is not separated from the static portion by any barrier. As a result if the spool slides down the shaft, it will not rotate on the bearings!

All of the complaints aside, I made it work and it is still and upgrade.

I used these:

5/16 threaded rod jam nut with wings
