IBOT is a simple robot model kit using basic geometry and friction fit single axis joints. It's a perfect desk toy or shelf ornament and can be used as a stash box for bits & bobs or even as a night light when combined with an LED. (Superglue is required for the pelvis and light sanding is needed for the arm/leg pegs).
Personally i would like to see the open source community go crazy with ibot and see how you decide to make it your own with paints, finishes and exotic materials.
IBOT is a work in progress and i plan to add more functionality & efficiency to its design over time. Things like:
- improved articulation
- swap-able components
I hope you enjoy IBOT as much as i did designing it and I welcome your feedback in the comments!
These are my personal settings per file.
Head - Raft? No, Supports? Yes,
Body - Raft? No, Supports? Yes
Pelvis - Raft? No, Supports? Yes
Arms - Raft? Optional, Supports? No
Legs - Raft? Optional, Supports? Yes
Caps - Raft? No, Supports? No
All Pieces are hollow and i used the thick walls setting in the M3D Software.
The completed model is 14cm tall.
Once the pieces are printed i recommend the following steps.
- Remove all support material & rafts.
- Lightly Sand away residue from Limb Pegs
- Superglue Rectangle end of Pelvis to the flat side of the Body
- Superglue Caps wherever you want. (I did them on the shoulders, elbows & Pelvis)
