Summary

I wanted to make it easier for me to show someone who doesn't have the same vision as me items on the Rift. This also allows me to switch from my prescription to my wife's prescription easily.

I took jegstad's design and thickened the outside frame and then removed and added tabs to the portion that holds the lenses. The lense now just pop into place using the tabs. This is based off the same Zenni Optical frames and lenses as jegstad's design, Frame #450021 http://www.zennioptical.com/450021-metal-alloy-full-rim-frame-with-spring-hinge.html

Note that the lenses are pretty loose when not in the main frame adapter so be aware of the top position of the lenses as you slide them into place. Once in you should be able to "dial" the top of the lense in if it moved off center.

Edit: I've added a 43mm version of the design for the 43mm version of the Zenni Optical round frames. http://www.zennioptical.com/550021-metal-alloy-full-rim-frame-with-spring-hinges.html . I've tried to increase the ease of popping the lenses in and out, so they should fit better without the need for sanding fresh off the printer. I prefer the 43mm size lens to the 40mm.

To get an Better/Easier Fit

When first printed the tabs will be a pretty tight fit and I found sanding the tabs and the tab sockets down a little helped. I sanded, tested, sanded, tested, etc till I got a good snug fit, while still being able to slide the tabs in easily.

Is PD something I need to worry about?

Depends on your PD value, for me these were way too narrow and had to add 6mm extra width to the bridge.

Update: While I was able to make it work, it took heavy modifications to make these work with wider PD. First of all, just widening the bridge from the middle is not going to work because cable exits from the left-side and that limits the amount of room you have to work with. Vertical space is also limited because everything curves down and by making it wider, it's now too tall and you cannot insert the facecover.

Worked it in there by nibbling away at the corners and cutting excess plastic from the corners, not a great solution but it'll do for now.

Thanks for making this! Just bought the glasses and sent the file to printing. Really excited to finally use my CV1 without cramming my glasses it in. You're the best!

I don't have the program, so I can't see what is actually in each file. Does the 43mm-Modulerlensadapters.stl have the adapter and the inserts and the insert file is if you just need an extra set of lenses for different glasses, etc?

Not sure what I need to send to the printer person to get these made.

43mm-Modulerlensadapters.stl has all the models you need to print the frames and inserts. The insert file is just if you wanted to print extra inserts.

Thanks. Had these printed and just picked them up. The insert tabs are way off from the place they need to go into the frame. If I put the first tab in, the third is off by nearly 1/4". There is no way to sand these down to get them to work. It is way too far off. I used the 43mm file. Is this just a printer tolerance issue? The printer person said I would need to have a different type of print done on it. SLA or SLS instead of Plastic. Its my first experience with having something 3D printed. So I have no idea. I could send you a picture if you like.

I printed the lense frames I'm using now, with cheap PLA and a Wanhoa Duplicator I3 / Maker Select FDM printer. I used a .2mm print setting, with I believe a 3 width for my walls. Here is an image of the way mine look (Don't mine the shittiness of the ridge, I didn't use supports.) So it's a pretty standard config. http://imgur.com/a/PY2Jc.

It might be possible you are trying to put left lens frame portion in the right side and the right side lens portion in the left. Also the lenses have to be the http://www.zennioptical.com/550021-metal-alloy-full-rim-frame-with-spring-hinges.html frames or it could put the tabs out of wack, if it was bigger.

If you can post some pictures that would be great and I can probably figure out whats happening.

I was unable to get these to work. How does the bottom latch into the rift?

The double ridge on the bottom of the frames slide over the ridge that is right next to the face mask foam on the bottom of the Oculus. You can kind of see what I'm talking about in the second and forth picture. I can make a video if me putting them in if that description doesn't help.

Thank you! I got it now. I was looking for a way to snap it into something, just wasn't apparent to me that the oem plastic sides between it. Great work =)
