Downloaded Sept 2017 and did not work.
Found error in line 67 as downloaded.
maxtextchars = max(len(text[0]),len(text[1]),len(text[2]),len(text[3]),len(text[4]),len(text[5]),len(text[6]),len(text[7]),len(text[8]),len(text[9]));
maxtextchars returns undefined.
Needs square bracket after max([ .... and before last bracket ]);
Works well now. May be due to version change? Did not work with 2015 or 2017 versions.
Nice work, very useful.

Edit. Just downloaded the Customizer version and it uses the original version of maxtextchars= without the [ ] and it works in that one.

thanks for the note about []

Hi i was able to fix that but can you help me with a problem, openscad tells me this

WARNING: Can't open library 'Module/Writescad/write.scad'.

thank you

The problem is that openscad can't find the library file "write.scad".

On line 17 you will find a line like below. This tells openscad where to look for the file "write.scad" which is required.

17 use <D:/Program Files D/Writescad/write.scad> //Change to directory where write.scad resides; Put the font (stencil2.dxf) in same directory (were other fonts are as well)

You need to find the file write.scad. See here for directions. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:16193
or see the comment below from kowomike - in reply to scrambledog Oct 21, 2013

Put the file anywhere you want on your system, and change line 17 to point at it correctly.

Write.scad

hey now that Customizer uses OpenSCAD 2015.03, "write" is available. your luggage label is a great, simple, stylish design that would be great to have on the Customizer now that it is possible! any plans to do that?

Hi,

well there is a customizer version available since almost the beginning:

Customizer Version of luggage label

nice! Customizer has much nicer fonts now though and your original stencil font looks so great.

(i know i could just use the OpenSCAD file myself for a particular tag, but I'm putting together a list of great easy prints for beginners and would possibly include this one if it had a customizer version)

I've got sintax error on line 119,
may you post more details about location of fonts and modules?
I'm not used to openscad as I'd like to be, can you explain it idiot proof for me?

Hi kowomike, first of all, thank you very much for this luggage tag. It printed very well for me and is really useful!
scrambledog, re. the syntax errors, I got these as well (lines 119 and 136) and fixed them by removing the trailing semicolon on both lines (ie change the lines from "};" to "}"). This is with openscad version 2012.05.26 which came with the debian stable I am using. Then it worked well (after copying the library files mentioned in the othe post below)

Hi,
probably the easiest way to get it working is to just copy those three files into one directory:

luggage_label.scad
write.scad (found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:16193)http://www.thingiverse.com/thi...
stencil2.dxf (found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:100779)http://www.thingiverse.com/thi...

Then open luggage_label.scad from there, make the first codeline after the comment look like this: use <write.scad> and there you go.</write.scad>

Write.scad
OpenSCad Stencil Font for Write library

Great idea for something everyone needs, eventually! It would be even better as a Customizable Thing! I noticed that MakerBot does not support stencil2.dxf, but you could ask them to add it. Check out the bottom of the page of Developer Documentation http://customizer.makerbot.com/docs#tabshttp://customizer.makerbot.com...

Hi,
I also thought about it and already contacted MakerBot regarding stencil2.dxf. Let's see what happens.
